Jerky stammering when accelerating ML 320 4 Matic

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help here.
My 2006 ML320 diesel auto has a problem where it stammers and jerks and fails to shift up if you hit the accelerator pedal, for example a fast throttle movement or kick down..
If you back off the throttle a bit it will then change change gear but its a slow build in revs thereafter.
I have tried the throttle reset which appeared to help, but again quick use of the throttle and its back to this problem and a little dangerous if you need to overtake.
I don't end up with any error codes, im just wondering if its more to do with fuel starvation ?
Im clutching at straws a bit, so if anyone has any ideas im all ears (or eyes)

All the best

Chris

It needs codes read. The description can fit many potential causes. How about failed, or nearly failed accelerator pedal sensor? Or throttle position sensor on the engine?

Turbo positioner with intermittent failing contacts will cause this to happen also.
