Good economical key programming hardware
I am in search of a key programmer. Someone here recommended the icarsoft for obd2 problems and it has worked great! I was wondering if anyone has experience with programming keys and what kind of equipment do you use? Thanks for the help from this forum without which my car would still be collecting pollen .

I do have to say the Icarsoft has worked great for me and the price was less that $150, I think the capability to program keys is beyond its capabilities. I was hoping to buy a stand alone programmer to reprogram a cheap used key to my car a 2010 ml350, at less than what the dealer charges 3--400$. I don't need top of the line high dollar equipment, just good enough to get the jobs done and to have in order to do it again if the wife looses another key which unfortunately is likely. This may be impossible. Im not a MB mechanic just a guy that does industrial electronic repair and have no desire to program keys for others. I was asking anyone if they had done similar, and what equipment that they had used.

nope, stubborn as a team of mules and twice as forgetful. She locked both sets of van keys in the van twice in a ten day period, AAA upped her act to the highest rate RV, because if this and getting stuck 3 or 4 times a year. but she does a lot for me, and it hurts mt soul to see her cry, what can you do? We did get some Tiles maybe that will help.

I have the icarsoft device also. Don't think too much of it. I have an I.T. background and find the update process convoluted and very problematic. I also run pretty good anti-virus on my computer. It sends up all kinds of red flags when connecting to their upgrade/update site warning of an unsecured connection and it found a trojan virus on the SD card that came with the scanner. I really don't trust it/them.

It worked great for what I needed to do for the price. Im sure there are better one around, you just have to match it to its intended use. Mine came with the latest sw so I did not have to update it. I guess the reseller could have put a bug on the sd, but I never plan to connect mine to anything. The more I looked at key programming, the more I like getting it done by someone else. Close by I located someone who is a locksmith that will do it for $185

Interesting how the question was never answered.
The answer is you have to purchase a new key at your Mercedes dealer. Bring proof of ownership.
