2008 ML550 with 170K for 6K - Bad idea?
I'm not really in the market for a W164, but there's one listed for sale near me for 6500 with ~170k miles. It seems to have basically every option available on that year (minus distronic). it needs the liftgate closer replaced/repaired. I'd mostly just be buying it as a utility vehicle and wouldn't be driving it frequently. I looked on autotrader and it seems like one of the cheaper ones listed, so I wanted to get everyone's opinion on this forum.
I'm generally weary of any first year models of a generation, and I know these W164s have a unique ability to leak water in through the tailights... What else might I want to be aware of? I should mention that it does not have airmatic, which I view as a positive.

If the one you are looking at is clean and has been maintained, I think it is not a bad idea. Of course as a Mercedes owner you know that there may be some repairs due, as I had to spend some money on front suspension parts.
Not having airmatic is definitely a blessing, I would not buy one with it myself.
Got some pictures?
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Sorry to be a drive-by. My mechanic advised against the model due to the issues they've seen. I wasn't really in the market, just stumbled across it on facebook and thought it might make a decent occasional utility vehicle. Without the extra garage space, it likely wouldn't have a great time on the rainy east coast anyways. Thanks for the input!
