Suggested OBD2 Unit for DIY Maintenance?

I have a 2009 ML320 Bluetec with a persistent Check Engine Light (after doing the resistor mod to bypass the swirl flap motor, it always wants me to know that my swirl flaps are stuck open). I need to get a code reader so I can make sure that there aren't other codes/issues that I really should be paying attention to, but I'm not sure which way to go. I could get a cheap bluetooth reader that would only grab engine codes, download Torque on my phone and leave it at that. But I expect that it could be useful to have one that could also read from other modules and allow me to reset service intervals, do basic calibrations and things like that when I do the work myself. These are the three that I'm considering:
  • FOXWELL NT510 Elite Scanner for Mercedes Benz
  • iCarsoft MBII for Mercedes Benz
  • Autel 4 System Scanner MD806
Anything that would make one of these much better/worse than the others? Any others in the same price range (or lower) that I should be considering? I'm not able to get a dedicated laptop system, and don't want to pay for features I won't end up using, but also don't want to get something where I'm so limited that I need to buy another in a year or two anyways.

Hi,

In place of ICarSoft MBII, you should consider ICarSoft MB V3.0.

There is an thread here in the forum about it.

If I recall, they are P2006 and P2007 (something like "flaps stuck open" for two banks).

Looking at it, it appears to have some great new functionality, but I see a bunch of "may not be available for all models" but I'm not sure where to find out specifically what the limitations are for the W164. I wouldn't spend the extra money if I couldn't access the additional functions, so I'll dig around to see if I can find out more...

It's not just a question of cost. It is a matter of period that the product will have an update. ICarSoft MBII is a derivative version of ICarSoft V1. Then came the V2 with more features and recently the V3. There is plenty of time between releases;

Although these products have a lifetime update, the truth is that this does not happen, as ICarsoft stops releasing updates for that older product.

I have iCarsoft MBII. An P2016 error recently appeared in my car. The Scanner shows the error code but not the description. I had to look up a table made available by Maj Dundee. Probably the product will not be updated.

i recommended Aliexpress Openport tactrix 2.0 and cracked Xentry software but in your country is it legal or illegal i don't know.
Xentry has many good diagnosis. For example it can direct you to solve problem step by step. it's very nice.

For example;
in my car it has "rich fuel mixture dtc" .

One of the repair man says you need the clean ignition coils lets do carbon clean. i didn't want.
2nd repair man says this DTC is because of bad maf sensor. says lets change it. i didn't want. Because 1 weaks earlier i don't have this issue.

After when i connect to xentry, it says this error may because of this semptoms;

1- Air Leak
it says check all hoses and gaskets with pictures to where you need to look. (BİNGO my hose is broken and glued before https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...rt-number.html )
2- Bad Maf Sensor
it checks Maf sensor data when car is idle, and at 3500rpm. it checks and says maf sensor is works correctly.
3- o2 sensor front left
it checks voltage and values are ok.
4-o2 sensor front right
it checks voltage and values are ok.
etc.
.

finally i don't change MAF, and i don't do carbon clean. i solve the problem with change hose.

2nd. my keyless go didn't work and it check all antennas everything is ok. it says door handles not connected. etc etc.

There are no "P" codes in any 642 module. You must own your own scanner.

yes. offline coding is enabled. You can change codings. For example in my car previous owner cancelled the check engine light. i will re-activate it with xentry.

repair man with Launch diagonosis device didn't find the activation.
