BlueTec AEM (Approved Exhaust Modification)

I got my notice informing me that the AEM is available for my 09 ML320. I'm wintering in San Diego and considering having the AEM completed before we returning to home, 80 miles NW and a Ferry ride outside of Seattle, I'm wondering if anyone has had this Modification done and if there have been any issues.

I had my first attempt at having my AME accomplished today. When checking in at the Dealership, 1 hour wait to see the SA, I was informed they did not have all the required parts mainly the SCR catalyst even though they said they did when I made my appointment. They will let me know when all parts are available and reschedule the modification. I learned they are estimating 16 labor hours for this AEM. More updates to come.

i believe my 2009 ml320 had the fuel additive system disconnected, with no apparent side effects.

however that is not why i am responding. just want to ask if your ml320 has paddle shifters and do they operate properly?

I do have them and they work properly. I don't use them much.

I finally received an appointment for my AEM installation that was promptly and courteously postponed waiting on back-order parts to arrive. About 10 days later with all parts on hand, I received an appointment. Dealer explained that the work would take about 4 days (which lined up with others I've read in this forum) and provided me a GLE loaner to use. I actually received a call on day 3 saying that a heater hose with an integral fitting had developed a leak and needed replacement to the tune of about $800 and it would add another day to the overall job. On day 4 I received another call saying there was a whistle during the test drive, and they wanted the shop foreman to look at it - be that was his day off. I'm expecting to pick up the truck later today (day 5).

It seems this is an older thread, so I'd really like to read your thoughts and experiences following the work on your ML.

BTW, in the mid-'70s I flew out of Boeing Field in Seattle and lived on the 3rd floor of a smallish apartment building on the shoreline drive just South of Alkai (sp?) Point lighthouse for the unbelievable (today) price of $300 / month, which included off-street, covered parking. My son was stationed in Bremerton and Everett for most of the 20 years he was in the Navy. It's been 50 years since I've been to that area, but I still remember it very fondly.

AEM

It's been three weeks and counting for the parts to arrive. I'm now concern that the parts wont arrive in time to complete the job before mid March as its much easier to have this repair done while in San Diego even tough they don't provide loaners. We are planning to return to PNW the end of March where I'll need to travel 120 miles. I do have some concerns regarding add on work that may be needed during this repair.
I'm interested in hearing if there are any drivability characteristic changes post AEM with MPG and performance.

I picked up my ML last Thursday, it was in the shop for 15 days, drove a nice C300 loaner. No real surprises with the repairs other than having to wait for a gasket to come in. I have noticed a new droning sound when decelerating which wasn't noticeable before. I've heard this same sound on our Sprinter RV, I imagine it caused by the new Cat and EGR setup. It will be interesting monitoring power and mpg going forward.
I will post updates later.
