2006 ML320 cdi Coolant Temp sensor location

Hi there i am new here and have come across a small issue with my ML320 with the fan coming on all the time I had a guy from the AA look at a battery issue and he said that the fan coming on straight away seems like a coolant temp sensor issue.
Does this sound correct if so where can it be located i cant find it anywhere some help on this would be much appreciated
Thakns

Does your temperature gauge read abnormally high?
Scanning the car for codes with a scanner like Xentry will, I bet, show a related code that might point you in the right direction. I'd start there before shotgunning parts at it.
