W164 ML water in trunk

Hello!

Have a problem with water leak.. already searched in google solutions, but so far nothing.

I have water in my trunk on right and left side (middle is dry), but not at the bottom of trunk, but only straight under quarter glass. Most of the time even isolation is also dry, but everything betweek quarter glass and isolation (that yellow foam and white thing) is in water.

Already changed taillight seals.

Any ideas?

Please help!

Not sure on MLs, but GLs leak where the roof rack attaches to the roof. The seal is not very robust.

I already mentioned that i changed them already. To be honest, even twice! And gaskets are attached to the body, as it should be. If taillamp gaskets would be the issuse, then water would be on floor, right? But its on both sides under the quarter window, where stars isolation etc. everything is dry!

The two places circled in blue. I assume the seal on MLs is the same as GLs, which is to say a thin rubber sheet that tends to leak over time.

Ive followed this problem for sometime. Other than the taillight seals (which have to be installed the right way - one way only) the MLs also leak from are:

Rear windows in luggage area - seals
Seals on the harness that goes through the roofline to the rear hatch
Sometimes the fuel filler door but unusual
The seals around the latch for the rear hatch
The sunroof when the drain pipes block and water ends up in the trunk then it overflows

I'd also check the drain plugs at the bottom of the storage areas on each side of the trunk.

You might well get inside the trunk and have someone hit it with a hose and see what you find. Test the tail light seals again as well. I saved the photo below from a post a while back which stated this is what the seals need to look like when fitted.
