I have a 2006 ML350 (gasoline), and I'm encountering an issue where the fuel level indicator doesn't reach 100% even after I've completely filled up the tank. Despite attempting to reset the dashboard as suggested in various threads, the problem persists. I think the vehicle drains fuel normally, and the low fuel warning light functions correctly. However, the fuel level indicator only reaches around 75% capacity after filled up, as indicated in the attached photo. I'm seeking advice on potential fixes for this issue. Step 1 is to scan it for codes. A decent scan tool will also tell you what the sender unit is reading. You can then compare that to your guage.
Usual culprits include the sender unit, the Rear SAM, and the guage itself. Until you scan for codes, we're all guessing. Post your codes and any other symtoms no matter how unrelated they might seem. There will be plenty of advice.
There is no error code as far as I can tell. The tools I am using are Can Scanner and the "VEEPEAK OBDCheck BLE OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner Car OBD II Diagnostic Scan Tool". Though the fuel level input gives 73% which is roughly the same as the dashboard.
Does that scan tool read MB specific codes? It lools like an OBDII only scan tool. If so, you are missing out on 95% of the data and codes that are available. Its a bit like having a radio that only picks up 1 band.
If that's correct, you'll need a proper scan tool like this (or better) which reads OBDII codes AND MB specific codes.

Until you scan it with something that reads MB specific codes, you won't be seeing any of the codes or data you need to see.

There are many MB specific ones to choose from. There are one way "readers" that scan and can clear codes, and then there are bidirectional ones that do all of that AND can program. The suggested tool does both and looks like a good deal for the money. Generally speaking, the more you pay the better they get. You don't need to spend a fortune, but with MB diagnostic fees at ~$150 hour, it'll pay itself off pretty quickly. And you'll be able to do things without a mechanic.
