Man I love distronic!

I was in some brutal crawling traffic today and thought I would test out the distronic. It does an incredible job at following the car in front in this situation, just gentle braking and throttle. I went for quite a long time without ever touching the brake or gas pedal, the only required action was to pull the cruise lever to resume following from any dead stops of over 1 second or so. The system almost seemed to recognize the traffic situation so it resumed automatically from momentary stops.

Makes driving in that crappy stop and go far less tiring and with zero chance or rear ending the vehicle in front I could just sit back and enjoy some music.

Well done with this technology Mercedes!

Great to hear it worked so well in stop-and-go conditions. That application never occurred to me ... only highway cruising. Brilliant of you to test that out.

Unfortunately, it WAS on my order, which got shelved just to get a ML by a certain date, so I don't have the luxury. I'm already thinking of the next one to replace this one in couple years time!

How far away were you from the car in front?

We took a 1200 mile trip a few months ago and found the problem was to stay awake. With the car driving itself and the lane keeping function making sure you don't drift it was a task to no go to sleep.

I too love it.

A lot closer than the minimum setting positions you at highway speed, maybe a few car lengths at most. It would not have appeared strange to other vehicles as the spacing was pretty much exactly what I would have maintained without distronic on. The other thing is the system doesn't aggresively hammer the brakes or gas to try to maintain a perfect set distance, its pretty smart.
