Oil Filter Wrench

Can someone confirm the proper oil filter wrench for a 2012 ML350 4Matic Gas model? I looked at the DIY Oil Change thread and I am not sure the one listed there actually fits this car. Also, I've seen threads saying get one at Pep Boys, does anyone know if you can and which one will work?

Many thanks.

Why not drive your car to Pep Boys. Go in and find one that looks like it will work. Ask them if you may take it out to your car to see if it fits. If it does, buy it.

THE C350
I went to an advanced auto store and they let me take 5 or 6 different ones out to my car to find the right one. I was out of the store for 15 minutes (got an important phone call) and when I came back in they were laughing because they thought I had run off with them and thought it would be a fun police report to file lol

interestingly enough I went to both Advanced and Pep Boys and tried them all. None would fit. Seems odd. I am going to call a local dealer and see if they can sell one, I'm sure I will pay dearly but I plan on having the ML350 for a while. @Smaritrey looks like you found one for a C320 assuming it is a different size filter.
I guess most folks are just using a filter strap. I used one on Sunday when I did the oil change and there is very little room to use one so thats why I was looking for the socket type oil wrench.

These folks will have one.

Send them an email as instructed in the first listing at the top of the Oil Service section.

Is it the 74mm wrench? They have them on Amazon for about $17.

That's where I got the wrench for my bluetec, the 84mm wrench.

I just bought a filter wrench for a ML350 Bluetec at PepBoys and they are prevalent there. The one I bought is made by CTA/FITRITE. It's 84mm X 14 Flutes Cap-Type Oil Filter Wrench. Cost spit.

On the tag it comes with it say to torque to 25nm/18 ft/lb. It also has on the tag that it's built for Sprinter/Mercedes/Jeep. Code number A269

I tried it on and it fits like a glove.

The BlueTec filter is larger than the gas version. I am going to try the 74mm see if it fits. I found out today the actual size is 74.4mm. I will post what I find out for others in case they are looking.

My 2013 ML350 gas version uses a 75 mm oil filter wrench. Just did my oil change a couple of weeks ago

I actually bought a plastic one at O'Reilly auto-parts that was two sizes in one. Top edge was 74 mm and bottom edge was 76 mm. Of course neither one worked

I looked in my tool box and I actually had a 75 mm aluminum oil filter wrench that I had purchased many years ago, totally forgot about it. It worked perfect

Thanks JR. I have come to find out that not all 75 mm wrenches are the same. I think you need one with 14 flutes. Happen to be in Pep Boys last night and the 75 mm had 15 flutes. How many sides does your wrench have?

ROJORIN........sorry 'bout the diesel wrench post.

Secondly, you got me now looking for a wrench for my '09 SL550. That seems just as hard to find. I did find a thread on this site and it might have some info for you https://mbworld.org/forums/mercedes-...nch-found.html

The wrench size they talk about seems to be the same size your looking for. I could just use a strap wrench I suppose but why not use the proper tool. So I'm looking also.

@ Hailer, I order the one on Amazon should get it tonight. I will let you know if it works on mine. I believe it is a 74MM 14 flute version, Assenmacher M0219 for $17.19. if it doesn't work it will go back. stay tuned.

Well yesterday I bought one of those caps at PepBoys that is 76mm and 14 flutes and went and tried it on the SL this morning. I loosened and tightened the 'cap' a couple of times and I see no harm in using it even though it is a touch too big. That said, I've become obsessed with buying the proper size wrench so I'll probably buy the Assenmacher one on Amazon if the review is good. Unfortunatley I had the service done on the SL just a month ago and it's too early to change filters and oil right now, but someday, someday..........at least I"ll be prepared at the time I decide to do it. thank you

The Assenmacher AST#M0219 that can be ordered on Amazon fits the 2012 ML350 Gas perfectly. It is 74MM and has 14 Flats. Also fit my 1/4 in torque wrench. Funny thing is I used a strap wrench for the last oil change and it was a struggle to get it off but when I put it back on I just hand tightened and according to my torque wrench it was right on 25nM. I pretty much tightened it as much as I could without using the wrench and that equalled exactly what is printed on the oil filter cover, 25nM.

hope this helps other 2012 ML350 Gas owners.

rojorin,

My wrench actually has 15 flutes but it worked fine.

Did some more research and the actual size for our cars is 74.4mm with 14 flutes MB P/N: 103589020900. You will pay almost $40.00 for the Mercedes tool. ECS Tuning Oil Filter Socket

I found one that is made by Assenmacher Specialty Tools: Assenmacher m0219

I just ordered one on Amazon for under $20.00
