I don't want to slam the new engine choice but that is a crappy alternative to the awesome 550 avail right now.

No thanks. Makes my decision to keep my pristine, low mileage 550 for a few more years much easier.

Ben_K 04-12-2014 10:59 AM

This is why I utilized my dealer's last allocated ML550 slot for the 2014 model year.

N_Jay 04-12-2014 11:05 AM

You can probably blame that on the CAFE standards.

I'm sure the bi turbo V6 will be a nice engine but it should be a replacement for the ML350, not for the ML550. It's a huge drop in power from the 4.7 V8. Whenever I decide to trade in my 13' ML550, that being the only non AMG gasoline engine would push me to a different brand.

I agree. BMW's X5 35i has similar power and it is the base engine (here in the US).

That's right. ML400 will replace ML350 eventually. I've booked mine which will be built in may, and arriving Hong Kong in august ... looking forward.

zeddie 04-27-2014 12:36 AM

Forget to mention .... According to the tech spec of ML400, 0-100km takes only 6 sec - a big improvement from the ML350.

I thought the ML400 was a replacement for the current ML550. Where does it say it is also replacing the ML350?

zeddie 04-27-2014 06:38 AM

Not 100% sure ..... thought ML400 will replace the ML350 3.5L, not bluetec. In term of price tag, it's abt 10% higher than 3.5L only but much improve the 0-100km performance from 7.5 sec to 6.1 sec.

It is going to be interesting to see where things actually shake out on this discussion.

Interesting thing to note.
According to the ordering guide posted in this forum, the ML400 will replace the ML550 in the US. Meanwhile the ML350 petrol continues on.
But in Australia, the ML400 has replaced the ML350 petrol. Meanwhile the ML500 (same as ML550) continues on!!!

We have CAFE requirements.

Same for Canada. We retain the 550 and drop the 350 gas.

Folks the 400 is a replacement to the 350 NOT the 550. I drove the 550 (called 500 here) and it is an amazing vehicle. I rented it out last year. But my longterm wise purchase imho was the ML 350. cheers

The engine changes depend on your region.

For 2015 the U.S. only has the ML 250bt, 350, & 400.

The ML 350bt, 550/500 is still available outside the U.S.

This is why I am holding out to see what is actually going to happen this autumn.

Drjcw24 05-01-2014 01:02 PM

My dealer confirmed to me when I picked up my 550 just a few days ago that everything they have received as far as information from mbusa, ML400 takes place of 550 for MY15, at least here in the states.

I was too scared to wait for the fall when I ordered in March because I wanted nothing less than a V8, and I saw the info on this board.
