Tranny flush at 40k? do I need to
So do I need to do the tranny flush for 475$ at 41k.....I mean really does it need it? anybody else feel like you are getting taken to the cleaners every time you walk into the dealership....not to mention the tires that only lasted 14k miles on the rear...Its not like I'm doing burnouts in the 4matic 550

Someone posted a maintenance manual and if I read it correctly the tranny oil change is due at 70K. Btw 475$ sounds very expensive...it's a flush and not just an oil change, right? Did they say why it needs to be a flush and not just an oil change? A flush is like a rinse until it's clean vs. just replacing the oil, right?

I do not expect my MB service to be cheap, I came from Lexus and they are also proud of their service.
Have you looked to see if your tranny needs to be flushed at 41k? What does your manual say? $475 does sound high, ask them how much labor is involved in it for $475

If you want that tranny to last, do the fluid and filter change at 20K miles.
MB for decades have come up with arbiturary mileage numbers for their trans service. First it was "lifetime", but the units failed in droves. Then "once at 40K miles then never again". That didn't work out also. Now it's every 40K miles. I followed the latter on my 164 with the 7Gtronic and I am on my 2nd transmission. (Rebuilt first at 38K miles, then trans and torque converter replaced at 90K miles).
So, since I am my own "warranty company", I don't mind paying the $400 or so every 20K miles. Vehicle has 145K on it now, and still shifts perfect. FYI, a new trans installed will run about $6000.
Bear in mind that these are very sophisticated computerized units that rely on a specific type of very clean fluid. If you plan on keeping the vehicle, have this service done very often by a tech that knows what they are doing.

I believe it's the ML350 Bluetec that gets its transmission oil and filter changed at 70K. Engine 642 I believe. Why this model gets changed so much later is a bit of a puzzle.

Has nothing to do with the engine - the updated 7G+ transmission is 70K - the 7G is 40K.
If you have any doubts as to the maintenance schedule for your year/model - do a search on the MBUSA website or a google.
Now - ask about the cost of a 20K or 30K prepaid maintenance pack BEFORE you check in for service - catch that pack before tranny service is due - which does BOTH required and recommended service - and come out ahead on the two/three - don't tell anybody I told you..

Thanks Every one. I am not exactly sure if it is a rinse or a change but I am assuming it is a drain and change. the 475 is what I don't get and I am firm believer in preventative maintenance but we've had these for years and it seems like every new benz which this makes number 22 for our family they keep finding more and more reasons to get you in the service bay and break out the amex. My truck is my work vehicle (perks of owning a family business) but as a manufacturers rep I know the game they play but I just wanted to hear from a mechanics stand point if it really needs it or is just highly recommended.....I would do all the work myself but I do not have the slightest clue and don't feel like experimenting on an 80k vehicle.....guess ill just bite the bullet and do it, better to be safe then sorry....maybe push it till 50k tho

The MY14_Maintenance booklet says 'change'.
I uploaded the MY14_Maintenace document in this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/new-m-cla...r-filters.html they won't let me upload it again on this thread, so you could go to that thread and download it for yourself. OR go to the MBUSA site and download it there for your year and model vehicle.

The current 2013 Maintenance booklet says to change the automatic transmission fluid and filter at 70,000 miles for the M Class. It won't hurt to do it earlier. I usually change all of the fluids (except engine oil) in my vehicles at 5 years or 50,000 miles.
MB WIS does not mention a flush. For a transmission fluid and filter change it says to drain the transmission pan and the torque converter. Then service the fluid.
You could do it yourself and save a bunch of money
Just did that recently on my SLK55 AMG.
