2013 ML350 bluetec 65k miles and leaking oil

Hey guys,

We have 65k miles on our well kept and reliable Ml350 bluetec. Its currently a lease vehicle for our business and we have 5 months and 10k miles left. The car is leaking oil very slowly in the garage for the past month. It needs servicing soon and I plan to take it to my reputable indie mechanic for inspection since its out of warranty instead of my dealership. The oil drips from the rear part of the engine onto the floor.

Does anyone have experience in regards to this and/or repairs? I don't want to waste money on excessive repair given its 5 months till lease end and we will do 10k more miles before lease turn in.

How about talking to the sales dept about a pull-ahead on your lease (if you were planning on getting another MB)? I think MBFS usually offers a 4 month deal.

Almost certainly the seal or gasket on the turbo. Not easy to get to replace it.

Sounds like what we went through about a year ago. The oil leak turned out to be leaking gasket of the oil cooler. It's a fairly complex and labor intensive job. Ours was fixed under warranty and have put almost 20k miles on since...with no other issues.

I was told that out of warranty the fix is around 3k.

Best to take it in and have it fixed as soon as possible.

I hope its just replacing the turbo inlet seal rather then the whole oil cooler. That way its far cheaper. I will get it looked at soon by Wednesday.

I heard about your problem on another post. I hope its not as bad and just the seal on the turbo inlet. Did you notice oil leaking slowly or fast? Mines leak so slowly that sometimes we don't see anything after cleaning the floor and the SUV is sitting for 1 or 2 days.

Has anyone have more information on the TSB for oil cooler leak LI18.30-P-055434? Will that help with the pricing on the out of warranty repair from dealer?

Folks,
let us collect the data on the Bluetec. I have search ~40 cars on cars.com and found 20 cars with leaks and torn seats (from CarFax report on the site). Please add your car or any you know to the list. There is no such record of engine failure for any other car in the industry. M-B should recall the bluetecs and offer full repair and warranty.

As a Material Scientist, I was stunned by the choice of material in that gasket. I never suspected anyone in Germany (one of the top countries in materials engineering) would do such a mistake rather than by Mercedes-Benz who has over 80 years of experience with diesel engines and have actually produced the best diesel engines in the world. Worse, the gasket is located deep in the engine that it would take a skilled technician between 25 to 35 hours to repair it, according to experts!M-B should have not used anything but metal gasket in that location.
Here is the list, please add yours and submit your case to the Attorney General
