D1S HID Bulb
Have anyone replaced a D1S HID bulb on their ML with the light package? My HID lights are getting a bit dim and yellow, I am looking to upgrade to 5000K HID bulbs. Does anybody have instruction, diagrams, video or tips as to how to remove the old D1S bulb?

Just did the HID bulb swap yesterday, pretty easy to do once I figure out what tool to use I swap the old bulbs out for a set of Osram D1S CBI 5000k bulbs. The output is much brighter and whiter than the stock HID.

Almost no tools needed, there is a hatch opening in the wheel well to gain access. The cover is held on by a plastic rivet on the bottom, simply pull the rivet out and slide the cover downward, turn the front wheels all the way to one side to gain access. The D1S bulb comes off with a 1/8 of a turn twist CCW, disconnect the connector below and reverse the order when installing the new bulbs. The bulbs are really hard to turn back in CW when installing the new D1S, I use a pair of 8" needle nose vise grip to turn it as the access port is really small. I also use some electrical tape to tape up the tip of the vise grip so it doesn't mark up the ignitor. Hope that helps. By the way, the oem Mercedes xenon bulb is pretty dim compare to the Osram CBI bulb.

We carry Osram D1S CBI (as well as cheaper Morimoto D1S) bulbs if interested. We have a direct account with Osram so no worries about counterfeit. Shoot us a PM if interested

• Wattage: 35 W

• Lumens: 3200 lm
55W bulbs probably will trow an error, so its not an option for me.
My thoughts was Lumens, if I get more road should look better.

Yes, lens sets the focal point, so the bulb needs to have the same focal point as halogens to maximize housing projecting/reflecting.
Due to surface mounted light spread with LEDs, you're not getting equal illumination all around which will result in uneven lighting, reduced throw distance, and dark spots. If you're in well lit city driving. Won't make a huge difference, but HIDs are just overall better option, especially a quality bulb/kit, not the budget type.

Ok, I thought lens is responsible for focal points, and when I look at the specs all what I see are:

Thanks AZN! It's good to have a well-informed and honest opinion from someone with lots of experience in automotive lighting.

Had mine replaced last night with Osram 6000. They don't look like 6000 at all, box shows upto 6000, I think its about 5500.
Install was very easy and no problem to turn the bulb CW. Total time spend 30mins top.
It made noticeable difference, I can tell for sure, worth the upgrade.
