2014 ML350 4M - extreme heat under dashboard?

We've had our CPO 2014 ML350 for about 6 months now, and have noticed over the winter that the area directly below the dashboard (just under the controls, and circled in red in the below picture) gets EXTREMELY hot when the car is blowing heat. Like, it feels like it might melt plastic... is this normal?? I figured that if I brought it in, they wouldn't be able to replicate it as it usually only happens after driving around for a few hours (a normal occurrence for us with a toddler sleeping in the car).

Has anyone else experienced this?

You are not the only one! I believe this has also been reported recently in the GLE and GLS forums... Go check it out! I dont think anybody has found out where it came from though. It also appears not all vehicles are concerned.

Just a thought...
May be the heating duct is passed thru that area for heater/cooled cup holder option.

I don't have the heated/cooled option, so not on this model...

Happens on ours also. But it is a great way to keep a honey bun warm!

same model/year? only when using heat? have you had it looked at, or are just living with it?

It's from the ducting for the HVAC. Happens on mine too.
