2012 media interface
Is there any way I can connect my iPhone 8 using a media interface cable without selecting the aux and actually using the media interface selection

ummm, i dont know if it will work but you can try, use the 30 pin-to-firewire converter adapter, connect it to the 30-pin side of the media interface cable and see if it works, i cant guarantee if this will work but try it.

I got a MB lightning cable like this from ebay for my 2013 ML350 and replaced the stock cable and works great to connect my iPhone SE.

Are you able to control your iPhone music with car controls and does it display info on screen? Some I've looked at only charge and say it does not recognize device when set on Media interface. reference to link in above post on ebay
