Keyless Go problem and fix

I have been using this forum to fix all kind of problems on my Mercedes... I thought it's time for me to return a little to the community!

Recently, my keyless go fonction stopped working on my ML350 2012 W166. To be precise, the lock/unlock via the door handles and the push to start button stopped working completely. However the button to unlock/lock the doors on the key were still working and I was able to start the car when inserting the key in the ignition with the cover removed.

I tried all the usual troubleshooting, replacing the batteries of the keys, checking all fuses, removing them to reset modules, etc...

Finally the solution was to replace the control module located under the back seat with a used module found on eBay. I can confirm that no reprogramming were necessary, I simply swapped the module and everything started to work as it should!

To access the module, you are supposed to remove the back of the seat to lift the carpet. I decided it was not worth the trouble and simply cut a hole. This is always hidden by the seat anyway.

Here some picture of the hole I made and the control module:

Section cut with exacto under the back seat

The white module can be seen at the bottom of the picture. You can make a smaller hole, if you get closer to the door it will make things easier.

My old module

Your experience may be different than mine but I was really happy this 10 minutes fix brought back this great feature to my car 😁

Glad you solved it. The carpet doesn't need to be cut if the seat bottom and seat back are removed, and the door sill threshold is removed. Not a hard job.

Which exacto did you use? How does one know exactly where to cut (your cut seems just about perfectly aligned over the required part)? How difficult was it to cut the carpet there? TIA

I just use one of these regular yellow cutter, nothing special to be honest. It was soft and easy. I guessed where to cut because this section was feeling empty underneath. I also thought I would do something similar to the hole for the fuse box MB cut under the other seat... As I said, it would have been better to add a couple of inches toward the door to my cut. The wires connect to the module on the side and have to be disconnected before the module can be pulled out!

Im impressed with the straight line cuts. Mine would have looked a whole lot worse. And thanks again for the info, may need it in the future.

Also, that side of the rear seat is really heavy, I hate to try and lift it out. Its hard enough just to push it up into the upright position.

Remorg

Thanks for the hints re replacing the KG module. I have got a module from Ebay for my ML250 which has a different set of code numbers to the one you showed in the last photo. Is the ml350 different to the ml250. The one I purchased is A 212 900 88 18. The supplier claims it is for my vin number. Thanks for any advice

Two Cuts

I had to make two cuts in order to reach the wires with my bad hands. The carpet looks fine!!! Thanks so much for this information as it probably saved me $1000.
