Given that it's Mercedes' newest V8 it's obviously one of the best.

I love mine...Love the growl at WOT...Naturally aspirated has always been my favorite...And I've pulled more than one 55...:naughty:

Their is no question, from the deep roar of the exhaust, that this car has power and can move. Some will argue that the E55, can produce more power with mods? Maybe so, but a big block V8, is unmistakeable. I absolutely love my exhaust note. MB is coming out with a twin turbo 5.5. liter motor, I prefer the naturally asperated. My car can produce allot of hp without turbos or superchargers; I don't need gimmicks. In my opinion the 2007-2009 E63 is the best looking E Class AMG to date. I love the pointy nose of the front fascia. I wish it had a MCT transmission, but the current one isn't bad. I just wish the shifts were faster, and that the car wouldn't downshift itself. Other then that, I absolutely adore it, it's EPIC......

Also, I feel the same way about the 07-09 E63. That's one great looking car. I always gawk whenever I see one. |
The M156 is definitely one of the best engines ever built.
|
Top of the list. More refined than the 7.0L GM LS7.

Those are claimed to firm up the shifts. |
Have you considered a shift kit? Those are claimed to firm up the shifts. i would love to have one, where do i find it? not interested in the valve/tcu body update for $1500 if that is the one you are thinking about. |

OK,which one were you thinking of?
nothing bad, just seems like a lot of cash to upgrade a valve body.you'll have $2000+ into it after the labor, postage and adaptation reset at the dealer. |

i don't want a manual, but i would like an auto that shifted as quick as say the Nissan GT-R.
last manual i had was an '02 M5 and it just isn't worth the hassle to me. |
Just recently picked up an E63  Love this engine/car! Any reason why online specs seem to vary between 507 & 514 hp?
|
You are right, the M156 is fantastic.
For some reason they rate the Edition 507 C63 lower, even though they get more RWHP than a 518 rated E63. I think I saw 522 ratings for ROW E63 M156. |
and the stock sound is...pure awesomeness!
|
It will be remembered for a while!

I too think the front end of the 07-09 E63 is the hottest of them all! I have always been partial to the circular headlights on any Mercedes, but that slightly pointed front end, gorgeous interior (my sled is white w/Tan interior), Airmatic shocks that are adjustable with the push of a button combined with not just any engine, but AMG's first ever built wholly in Alfterbach mated with that 722.9 Trionic Transmission makes it one for the ages!! Being a mechanic working solely on my own fleet, it has been so rewarding taking in a such a vehicle and realizing the increase in performance resulting from rebuilding the Top End (both Heads and Intake Manifold, new PS Pump, new injectors, plugs, SLS Valve Tappets, correcting the incorrect install of the Cam Adjusters on the passenger side!! Crazy!! but it explains why 8 of 16 Intake Valves ended up being bent!!) including the mechanic friendly setting of timing of the Cams, and correcting a pull to the right by rebuilding the front end and installing adjustable Camber Arms, has been very satisfying to say the least!! Next up is a repair of the Rear Main Seal which will allow me to drop in either a rebuilt stock Torque Converter or a high stall, not sure. But while I'm at it I have all the bits to rebuild the drive train rear Suspension and Bushings with all new bolts and new rear hubs and rotors!
