Pre-DIY M156 Intake Manifold

Given the supposedly large number of people who have had to have their intake manifold gaskets replaced, there is no DIY for this procedure.

Is there anyone who has done this job and have any info? My main concern is torque specifications and pattern for tightening the bolts.

Also concerned about how to deal with the fuel rail.

I post this here because it is the only common area for M156 owners.

So looks like torque to 10Nm, in documented pattern (totally not what I would have guessed - old school is from the inside out). Then turn 90 degrees, then 10 degrees.

Thank you very much. You have just given me everything I need for this easter's automotive project.

By the way... I still have my old charcoal filters. A good deed should be repaid. PM me.

Just did this today. Note the gasket material was changed to reduce leaking in 2009 and the bolts are one-time stretch aluminum bolts now. For CLS63 I bought these parts:
10x 0049905312
2x 1561410380

It's pretty easy, only thing that caught me up was the long purge line, it doesn't say how to remove it, but it just pulls out of the intake. When reinstalling push this in all the way to wider part before reinstalling intake, and tilt the intake butt first under the silver pipe.

However, don't be like me, don't break one of the new aluminum bolts while installing :(

I was concerned about the fuel line too, but it doesn't hold much fuel in it and doesn't appear under much pressure. The fuel rail stays with the intake (as does a lot of stuff)

Oh and replace the PCV valve while you have the intake off, it's a ***** to do with intake in place and is a common failure and cause of lean codes.

Here are the instructions:

Hey I’m about to do this job this weekend, I’m lost as to where to buy the socket to remove these bolts.. online I find the size of M8 is 8mm but there is no torx but that fits that measurement.. where did you find yours?

good luck, get that PCV valve while you're in there, especially if you are going to chip your car
