Does anyone have any links on DIY oil change?

So noone has done their own oil change?

I do not change my own oil.

How come lol?

Because I would rather do it myself, I enjoy doing my own work on the car. I don't know whats so hard to understand?? I see the DIY for the SL55, so I want to know if theres a way to do it on the V12 motor.

So am I, I was referring to the guy above my post haha.

I just did mine. All you need is a topside oil extractor, a OEM filter, and 9qts of MB approved oil. Takes about 30 minutes and you never even get your hands dirty.

Thanks, but is there another way (like from under the car)? Or do you still get the same amount of oil out with the topside oil extractor?

You serious lol? No oil pan drain plug?

The plug is on rear passenger side corner of oil pan, either buy new plug and copper washer or put thread sealer on old bolt or oil will leak out dam 0w40. If u want all oil out, loosen oil cooler nut and drain oil cooler, u might need 10 to 11 quarts if u do this depends if u have 65 or 600, diff size oil coolers.

Yes, there is a drain plug, but your dealer uses an extractor, and it's good enough for me. Yes, you get every drop of oil out using this method. I always suck out what the owner's manual states as the capacity, so that's a good indication.

Plus, in order to pull the drain plug, you have to remove the undercladding. And there's always the possibility that you strip the threads on the drain plug, then what?

Ever wonder why your dealer does it with an extractor?

Also, I didn't know the dealer uses an extractor. I though they did it the original way?? But if you say it works and you trap 120+ than I'll listen to you:)

Can confirm the Mityvac 7201 works like a charm, just needs to be pumped quite a few times as you're pulling out 9+ liters. I was amazed that the oil filter came with 4 o-rings, but I suppose that is a classic example of the engineering on this car.

What about the warranty on the car if you mess up? You are talking about o rings, washers, drain plugs getting messed up, I suggest if you can afford to buy the car isn’t it worth letting the dealer do it with no warranty or other issues? Once you are out of warranty, you can do whatever you want.
The 450 doesn’t have a dipstick, now what other than jacking up the car to drain from pan?

Most of our cars are out of warranty anyway. I'm not sure about the 450 but this is about the M275 engine. Also even if the 450 doesn't have a dipstick, I'm pretty sure it has a spot for one to go. Same holds true with the M275, there's no dipstick but it has the dipstick hole.

For those with the newer steering wheel, here is the most current service reset video I could find. Just did mine, it works.

Just read this today. On earlier post about 5W-40 oil for the M264 is correct. It's the WRONG oil but dealership is using it. (Not sure why and they do not know either - maybe they know and do not want to tell you because they are trying to use their oil up. BTW I talk to MOBIL 1 and they actual make the Mercedes Brand Oil.) The right oil is 229.71 or 0W-20. Do not be fooled by the OW-20 weight. I drove from California to Maryland this summer at 75+ speed and 90+ temperature and the motor oil temp and water temp did NOT elevate. I know it's hard to believe. Although I will not say that about pulling a trailer. Also, not sure if Merecedes has a taken that in account with a super cooling radiator or the 7.4 liters of oil to keep it cool. Thinner oil does flow easier quicker and better and most new vehicle use it (for gas purpose too). NOW you have to get the Right oil. There are about four (4) different 0w-20 oil by Mobil 1 and they all are NOT 229.71. Many V167 use the European brand that is 229.71 made for the PARTICLE GAS FILTER - hence emission filter in V167. The correct one is MOBIL 1 ESP X2 0w-20 (not the EXP). Amazon has it at times, but this oil is in short supply. O'Reily can order it I been told. There is another oil that is 229.52 MOBIL1 ESPX3 ow-30. Check the MOBIL 1 well site. Right now, there is much confusion about oil since they recent change its classification. BE EDUCATED.
