Hydraulic engine mounts??

I had a very small oil leak on the garage floor.
Maybe a couple teaspoons.

It was just about under the drivers seat.
I brought it (05 SL 600) in to the dealer and was told the oil is coming from
your engine mounts.

I'm a new MB owner and I never heard of hydraulic engine mounts.

I was informed the part is not too expensive (2 to 3 hundred) but the labor is a real killer. 18 HOURS !!!!!!!!!

What is the story with these mounts??

Anyone familiar with this process and the 18 hrs of labor?

just looked at records for my car. the previous owner had the negine mounts and the transmission mount replaced in 2008 for a total cost of $1260., the engine mounts were 132.30 each and the labor was 8 hours total $676. you be the judge. it seems like 18 hours is a bit much!!!!

i believe they jack up the engine slightly to change the engine mounts.

It depends on the engine number... they modified the engine mounts so to install you have to replace the motor mount brakets that bolt to the block.. There are to options you can remove the engine or you can drop the complete subframe and than you have to move various brakets and turbo parts. Last time i looked i think book time was about 10 hours warranty.. it takes more than 10 hours to do ill tell you that. There is no way your jacking up the engine for these mounts
