If this car was anywhere near me I would have bought it twice by now. But I’d have to fly there to look at it then ship it to me it would be an extra 2k.
I've been keeping a close eye on this one as we may need an E55 in our life soon. we are local (near Boulder) and cash buyers (duh), it would be nice to give it a look sometime at your convenience. bummer that the pano roof doesn't work, but its not a deal breaker for me.
Do you still have this E55 for sale? If you’re negotiable on price I’m willing to fly out from California to buy the car from you. I buy and sell these AMG’s here in California and would love to have yours as my next project.
Okay well, since the owner of this car hasn’t returned messages or txt’s and has basically ghosted off, I’ll go ahead and just post my side of the story. I’m sure he has his side, and I’d love to hear it, but if he doesn’t call, write, message, txt or send a carrier pigeon, what’s a guy to do?
So first up, the car is gorgeous and exactly what I’m looking for, we live at most 10 miles apart so it was easy to coordinate a meet, and I had a very favorable impression of both the car and the seller. We agreed on a price and I left it that I’d discuss with my wife (I know it’s weird, I have one of those good marriages), but felt that we could do something pretty quickly.
I followed up with him that my wife would like me to sell off our 540i (we own four vehicles, a camper and a trailer, this was about parking not finances) before purchasing the E55, but I also conveyed that I didn’t want to pass it up, if he had another highly interested buyer, please let me know.
About a week later, he let me know that another buyer was interested in flying out to purchase the car, but it would be easier to have a local sale. After a bit of back and forth, we agreed to meet at my bank on Monday the 20th to make the transaction. I arranged time with my bank manager, we’d sit in his office to sign the title and bill of sale, and the bank manager would personally hand the seller a cashier’s check.
Monday morning, he bailed out because he got pulled into a work meeting. So, we rescheduled for Tuesday at the same time, same location.
Tuesday, we got some weather and the seller wasn’t willing to drive the car. Though roads were fine up north here in Boulder, I guess the car was down south of the metroplex, I think at his parents place, they got a lot more snow than we did. I was disappointed, but it’s understandable, nobody wants to mess up a car the day they are selling it.
So, we arrange to meet again on Wednesday, same time and same place. He txt’s to let me know he can be early, so I let me banker know and head on over. Then I get a txt that he’s thrown the supercharger belt, he’s going to get a replacement and fix it in the nearby mall parking lot. I txt to clarify location and head over as it’s only a couple minutes away. Personally, checking out broken cars is way more my speed than hanging out at a bank, and I have tools with me. I’m happy to help fix it, I don’t care at all that it broke, as far as I’m concerned we are going to replace the belt and then complete the sale.
Over at the mall, I drive around but can’t find him. I try to call, and it goes straight to voicemail. I try to txt, and no reply. I head back to the bank in case we missed each other and suppose his phone battery died or something. Nope, he’s not at the bank, no txt’s, phone doesn’t ring through. I guess he blocked my number. I don’t have a single clue why. None. I’m totally baffled.
I still haven’t heard from him, I posted above and PM’d him here, and his profile indicates that he’s visited the forum, so I assume he’s read the message.
So is the car still up for sale or not? I don’t have any idea. I love the car, I’d still be willing to buy it. Heck, I’d head over and meet him and buy it today.
I’ve bought and sold a LOT of cars in 25 years of being a gearhead, but I’ve never had someone just vanish before. If he didn’t want to sell it, I figured I’d at least get a “hey sorry, this isn’t going to work out” or something to that effect.

Its being repaired and will hopefully change hands later this week. Agreed, gorgeous car and just what I've been looking for, we are super excited to add her to our stable.
Maybe, maybe not.... its kind of hard to say! I was supposed to meet the seller and buy it today, but once again, something came up. I'm honestly not sure if he's really trying to sell it, or if he's got some other deal in the background or other angle he's trying to work, or maybe he's just messing with me or perhaps he's just extraordinarily unlucky. Todays excuse was a flat tire, and a remarkable inability to not find a replacement tire, or other means of transporting the vehicle.
you guys want to play a fun game? back when i was going to buy the car, i think on the 3rd attempt, he said it threw a supercharger belt and he sent me a photo of it. photo #1 is the photo he sent me, photo #2 is the picture i took of the cars engine. its like one of those kids games where you try and spot the differences.
