Description:

Price: $6,900 (Or Best/Reasonable Offers) - Lowered as I am looking at a vehicle for my daughter this weekend.
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Title: In hand

UPDATE - Vehicle is still for sale. I've added video of driving, acceleration, cruising and cold start. In addition I've added pictures of a recent rear window regulator that I replaced two days ago. I've also had a few questions about the white grease on the suspension components. I've always sprayed white lithium grease and other rust prohibiting grease on the suspension components and under area. I typically do this during oil changes and especially right before winter. After winter I always remove the wheels and do a degreasing/dirt removal clean and then reapply.

For sale is my 2002 Mercedes Benz E55 AMG with 139,700 miles. I have owned since March of 2014 and daily drive it everyday to and from work (25 miles). I've put approximately 34,700 miles on the vehicle since purchase. I purchased it locally from Carmel Motors in Carmel, IN after the 2nd owner traded it in. It was at 105k miles when I purchased it.

I am currently selling as I need to purchase a vehicle for our 16-year old to drive. I will continue to drive the and will keep it if I am unable to sell. It really is a nice vehicle. As I sat in bumper to bumper traffic yesterday on I465 I had the AC on high, it was 95 degrees outside and the old AMG just happily kept us comfortable. A few weeks prior I was driving on a business trip to Ohio. 75mph, rock solid, 25mpg.

As this is a Mercedes forum I will not go into detail about what a W210 E55 is as I'm certain most know the unique history of these AMG vehicles. I will say that it is a very nice vehicle that I have enjoyed driving and consider it to be one of the best low cost, high performance, reliable uber saloons from Mercedes AMG in the early 2000s.

My vehicle is far from perfect. I've seen the super low mileage examples on Bring-a-Trailer sell for 20+ thousand dollars. This is not one of those cars.

On the flip side, I've also seen very poorly maintained (mechanical & cosmetic) examples for sale. This is not one of those cars either.

I would rate my vehicle somewhere in the middle; a very well maintained, but used and enjoyed example of a W210 E55. The M113 does not burn any oil, the transmission shifts smoothly (I've completed a number of drain & fills), the highway manors are excellent. I've seen 25mpg on recent business trips to Ohio. No check engine or other malfunction lights.

Very strong running car. It is faster than my 1995 Z28 Camaro by a considerable amount.

Over the 5-years of ownership I've done the following:

  • Consistent fluid changes between 5-6k miles
  • Always used Mobil One 0W40 & high quality oil filters
  • Multiple transmission fluid drains with multiple filters. (It's so easy to do and I didn't know the history)
  • Replaced the oil cooler rubber gaskets (3 total) including the main gasket under the oil filter container.
  • Replaced the front oil pressure cover gasket.
  • Replaced the transmission connector adapter.
  • Differential service (Redline 75w90) @106k miles
  • Coolant & Thermostat @ 119k miles
  • 16-spark plugs @ 116k miles
  • MAF (preventative) old one was working but I felt it was due @ 123k miles.
  • Crank Position Sensor (preventative) old one was working but I was changing to MAF so why not? @ 123k miles.
  • Throttle Position Sensor (not preventative - it died on me one day)
  • AC Compressor & dryer (professionally installed @ Hash Imports in Fishers, IN) - AC blows very cold.
  • Mahle Fuel Filter
  • BBM Remanufactured the instrument cluster (replaced light bulbs and tachometer drive motor)
  • Replaced front suspension components (springs, shock absorbers, sway bar end links, ball joints)
  • Replaced rear left taillight assembly
  • Replaced transmission mount
  • Replaced hood struts
  • Replaced all brake rotors & pads
  • Always run high quality premium fuel
  • Replaced HID bulbs in 2018 (have old ones they still worked).
  • Most exterior bulbs have been replaced (fog, driving, tails, turns, brake). I have spares I always keep in the car.
  • Replaced brake switch (have spare in vehicle at all times)
  • Due soon will be an oil service and I will likely also do another transmission drain & fill and a coolant drain and installation of new hoses along with another diff service. All preventative.
I traditionally use a combination of Griots products on the exterior and interior as well as Meguires X-press wax as a periodic cleaner/detailing product.

Approximately a week ago I did a light summer correction with a full clay bar, Griots BOSS correcting cream on an orange pad. This was followed by a wipe down with BOSS exterior detailer and then Optimum Opti-Seal. Allowed to dry and then another coat of Meguires NXT Tech Wax with a black pad on low. This was applied to all exterior parts. Throughout the year I do frequent washes and spot detailing with X-Wax. The interior is always kept clean and leather cleaned and conditioned with Griots conditioners/interior cleaners.

I have 90+ pictures available to any interested buyer viewable at the link below. The pictures detail the best and worst of the car including a raccoon I hit a few years ago that cracked the front bumper. It was all repaired by my insurance company. But pictures are there to show.

Included in the sale will be a full set of 17" Mercedes wheels w/Bridgestone snow tires in excellent condition.

I will also include any of the original parts that I have (MAF, D2R bulbs, etc).

The biggest disappointment I have is how difficult it is to keep rust away and other defects, from driving and living in the midwest, off the car. The car has rust popping in in places. I've attempted to seal stop as much as possible. It is unfortunately one of the downsides to the W210.

Other Notes:
  • Sunroof works excellent. No leaks.
  • Heated seats work excellent.
  • Driver side contour seat no longer functions. Been looking at the DIY fix.
  • 6-disc changer works great. Loads and unloads disks just fine.
  • Cluster was rebuilt shortly after I purchased in 2014. Overtime the the LCD display on the time/drive indicator has slipped down by a few mm. It still functions correctly but you will see it in the pictures.
  • All windows function correctly.
  • I did replace a rear driver regulator a few years ago. Auto up/down works.
  • I replaced the main interior lights with LED. They are a more white/blue light.
  • There is a rip/cut in the driver seat back. I've got pictures showing this along with a tape measure to show size. I currently have it covered with some aftermarket leather tape to prevent it from spreading. I've been looking for a replacement (used) seat back on Ebay, but currently cant find the correct type.
  • Great heat in the winter & AC in the summer.
  • Electric mirrors and seats work. Rubber around the mirrors is degrading. I will likely replace soon.

I am open to any reasonable offers and am also open to positive and negative feedback about the price or condition of the car.

You can PM me here or send me an email at dustinreedstover@gmail.com

I'm happy to meet anyone within a 25 mile radius of the Indianapolis area.

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my car.

As I remember things about the vehicle I will update.

Dustin

Good Afternoon,

I have uploaded additional photographs to the Google Drive folder of the driver side rear window regulator that I just replaced. Now both have been replaced during my ownership.

The part looked to be original.

In addition I've added pictures of the inner door, air lines for the locks, etc.

The window functions properly and is very smooth.

Thank you.

Added additional pictures to the gallery and price has been lowered.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1A9...MZpqN5CxKJ9zAG

Adding the list of extra items coming with the car.
  • Stainless Steel X-pipe
  • (4) P225/45R17 Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires on 17" wheels. Correct directional pattern (2 left, 2 right). Excellent tread depth left.
  • Original AMG driver side rear brake light. The one on the car is the correct AMG smoked color. The original is fine and can still be used if needed.
  • MAF - I replaced as preventative maintenance. This MAF was working fine so I kept it.
  • CPS - Again, while replacing the MAF I did the crank position sensor. No issues. But since I was doing the work I replaced the part. The original works just fine and will be provided.
  • New URO Parts brake pedal sensor. I always keep one in the car.
  • Old Throttle Position Sensor. This is bad and marked bad. But I kept it to show it has been replaced.
  • Assortment of light bulbs (rear, front, parking)
  • Original 4300K Sylvania D2R bulbs. Still worked. I just replaced with 5K again for preventative maintenance.
  • Lower radiator hose. This and the upper hose is on my list of next preventative maintenance in the fall.
  • Extra set of aftermarket wheel caps.
