The Best Or Nothing. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe C300 4MATIC. Since its launch in 2015, the new W205 C-Class has sold an average of 70,051 units a year in the United States beating the Audi A4 & BMW 3-Series in overall sales (data based on carsalesbase).

In 2017, the 2.0L M274 Turbocharged DOHC 4-Cylinder engine won WardsAuto best engine of the year beating the Alfa Romeo Giulia, BMW 330i, & Audi A4. This engine was later replaced with the M264 engine in newer facelifted C-Class models. With even more technology, the newer M264 engine has an electronic oil level sensor. The M274 on the other hand retains the traditional oil dipstick which makes oil changes a breeze. If you have an oil extractor, you can do your oil changes standing up with the M274 engine. You do not have this option with the newer M264 engine.

Assembled in Bremen Germany, this car is part of Mercedes-Benz's MRA architecture updated in 2017. The all new S-Class, E-Class, & C-Class coupe vehicles share the same platform. Front strut suspension. Rear multi-link suspension. The coupe is rarer to see on the road and slightly lower in ride-height than its popular sedan counterpart. This gives it a very nice exclusive aesthetic and better handling characteristics. It is fun to drive.

This MRA platform was not designed to be a sports car. The engineers had a different end goal in mind. Instead they created a Grand Touring platform for all S/E/C-Classes. What is a grand tourer you might ask? A grand tourer is a car made for high speed & long distance driving; think of it like a marathon runner who runs at a constant steady pace versus a sprinter who is only good for short distances and a straight line.

If you do not do much highway cruising, you are not the right person for this car. This is not a car for buying groceries at the local Whole Foods. This car feels at its best above or at 60+ mph. It was made to live in this space and the sound isolation is excellent.

As this car carries the near end of life cycle M274 engine, reliability should not be an issue compared to early 2015 or 2016 builds which had wrist pin issues. This motor configuration makes the C-Class into a quiet luxurious but environmentally friendly grand touring machine. On my road trip to Assateague Island & Ocean City, I averaged 38mpg. On my regular hiking trips to Old Rag Mountain I average 34mpg.

I am selling my Benz because my work commute is non-existent at this point. Working from home these days and my E-ZPass hasn’t been used in over 9 months. Also because this is my second car.
