Intro: The SL63 is an absolute monster of a car that you can drive in comfort daily, a true daily driver supercar. I’m assuming that most lookers understand how special and rare these cars are, so I won’t elaborate on what makes an SL63 such a fantastic car. I purchased this exceptional example one year ago from an attorney in MO who had replaced it with a Maybach and needed the garage space, it was in excellent condition and has only improved under my ownership. In the ad below I’ll attempt to outline in full detail the condition of the car, please contact me with any questions. I am only selling because I have decided to upgrade my boat, so something has to give in the toy department.

Exterior Condition: As you can see from the photos this is a fantastic looking car. The SL has always been a beautiful car starting with the legendary Gullwing, and the R230 model continues the tradition. The paint has a fantastic deep shine without swirls, scratches, mismatch, or noteworthy flaws. Always garage kept and hand washed, driven and enjoyed as an extra car not a daily driver. I replaced the rear window trims that are prone to delaminating on the R230 model, along with repainting the wiper blades and windshield cowl as the black plastic had become dull from the sun. Wheels are in like new condition, with the inner barrels and brake calipers ceramic coated to make cleaning a breeze. Glass is original and without any large chips or scratches. The body is in excellent condition without any dings, dents, or other damage. The only flaws to note are a crack in the lower black grille plastic that is very tough to see, a small nick in the paint near the driver’s door handle (see picture), a very light and short scratch on the hood near the vent (couldn’t photograph), light rock chips on the front bumper, and a small amount of dulling to the black anodized window trim that happens to every R230 (this one is the best I’ve seen). These are all minor nits that I share in the interest of full disclosure, overall the car is in exceptional condition.
Interior Condition: Similarly excellent to the exterior, the interior is fantastic and a very nice place to spend time. Of the many amazing cars that I’ve owned over the years, the R230 interior is far and away the nicest I’ve experienced. Every feature has the legendary old-school solid Mercedes feel to it, every control moving with rifle bolt precision. The heavy doors thunk closed and everything feels substantial. Every surface of the interior is covered with padded French stitched leather or high grade vinyl, there is no cheap hard plastic here. All interior leather and vinyl is in excellent condition, the driver’s seat shows light wear (see photos) but is in excellent condition. All leather was conditioned with Leatherique oil when I purchased the car, and has been maintained with Leatherique Pristine Clean. The Napa leather on the seats is glove soft, and the wool carpets feel about an inch thick. The genuine wood trim has a nice glossy shine thanks to being waxed upon my purchase, without any of the crazing or cracking sometimes found in wood trim. The Harman-Kardon audio system is very very good, and I added a module to the MMI system to allow Bluetooth streaming audio. The factory Bluetooth phone interface works very well, due to having multiple microphones it even works well with the top down. Top operation is like new, all top joints have been lubricated and all weather strips have been conditioned with Mercedes seal oil. All features work 100% correctly with one exception, the passenger side seat bolster in/out adjustment is not currently working. Driving the car matches the feeling of quality and luxury, there is almost no wind noise and no rattles or creaks. With the top up it drives like a coupe, this is a convertible without compromise. Again, it’s just a special car that needs to be experienced to fully understand.
Mechanical: This is really why you’re looking, right? I love the M156 V8 and 7-speed AMG Speedshift transmission, I have previously owned a C63 and my wife drives an E63. I think it’s one of the best engines ever made, which is matched by winning a number of industry awards. The responsiveness, the sound, the way it pulls to redline, it’s an addictive experience. The transmission does its part too, smooth around town but immediately responsive with lightning quick shifting in the S+ and manual modes. The engine and transmission is why I spent more money and bought the SL63 over an SL55, the SL55 is an excellent car but feels a bit lumbering and dimwitted in comparison. Overall mechanical condition is excellent, I have full history of the car thanks to a Mercedes VMI through 2018, records from the previous owner, and then the work I have done. Major work completed by previous owner: brake fluid bleed, power steering flush, microfilter, air filter, fuel filter, rear differential oil, tires (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric) with 9/32 tread front and rear. Work I have completed: brake pads (carbon ceramic for low dust) and sensors front/rear, Lubri-Moly engine clean/Ceratec/oil change(s), spark plugs, transmission fluid/filter/pan upgraded to late model larger capacity, Bosch wiper blades, center console lift strut, consumer battery, bleed ABC system and replace filter. I also replaced a trim piece on the driver’s door with a broken tab, and the rear window tabs that like to delaminate on all R230s. All work completed was preventative, I had no plans to sell this car and have maintained it accordingly. The driving experience matches, every aspect of the car works as it should. Steering is tight, well weighted, and tracks straight. Brakes are smooth, strong, quiet, and vibration free. There are no leaks, lights, fluid consumption, or anything that doesn’t work correctly. It is an exceptional car that I would drive anywhere.
Conclusion: I’ve owned a lot of cars over the years, this is in the top three with my 911SC and FJ80 Land Cruiser. Definitely on the short list of cars that I would purchase again, it has exceeded every expectation. If you want a supercar that can be driven across the country in luxury and comfort, this is your ride. Very few cars do everything so well. Delivered with two working key fobs, owner’s manual packet, service records, Mercedes carpet floor mats, resonators, custom fit sun shade, and original silver side trims. Clean Carfax, clean KS title in hand with no liens, ready to sell. Upon request I can provide a copy of the Carfax, almost 150 high resolution photos, and an Excel maintenance summary. Thanks for looking, you won’t be disappointed!

To the best of my ability I believe the head bolts to be original, I have no record of them being replaced. In my year of ownership the car has not used a bit of coolant, or any other fluid for that matter. For what it's worth I currently own a 2010 E63 with original head bolts and previously owned a 2009 C63 with over 90k that had original head bolts. While I acknowledge that it can be an issue, it is also a very rare issue. If it keeps you up at night there are a number of people that have replaced the head bolts without removing the heads, which is a fairly inexpensive repair.
