Up for sale in Kingsport, TN 37660 is my 1995 s420. The car runs excellent, a/c works, heat works, everything works except for the power rear headrest and the radio.
In the past year I've had the sway links and sway bushings replaced, new front rotors and brake pads, two new distributors and two new rotors, new spark plugs, new fuel pressure regulator.
It was my daily driver until all of the sudden reverse went kaput about 3 weeks ago. All forward gears work great and you can drive it home no problem. I want to keep it and have the tranny rebuilt but the wife says it has to go!

Just an FYI if you feel like delving into the problem. If its the sticking solenoid valves pretty easy fix if you are into the messy trans pan drop and refill..you have a dipstick on your trans so easy to refill and check your level. If low fluid was the cause all your forward gears would be sluggish. You'd have to Search for the sticky valve DIY since the pasted link seems to have deleted the pictures but a MB Forum request would yield the procedure. At 124K miles the other cause would be the reverse hub seal being torn (quite possible)..doubt the reverse clutch plates are shot. Did your R gear fail by first taking a second or 2 to engage and then longer or only engaging if you rev'd the engine to 1,500 rpms or so ?

For at least two years prior to going out it would take 2 to 3 seconds to go into reverse. There was also a lot of chattering noise in reverse as well. I'll take a look at the write up. Thanks!
