    2) On the point of the diff, any go-to suggestion? Would a diff from a w124 work/help?
I would not worry about a diff swap just yet. That is easy. Use your original diff first, but remove 2 more diffs from an auto W201 from a junk yard. That is what I have done. I have ratio's of 2.87, 3.07, 3.27 as spares. The diff life is directly proportional to the driver's shifting abilities. If you are easy on the clutch, it will last you. What kills it is the back and fourth torque that does not exist in automatic transmissions. Not sure if a 124 diff is stronger but I believe they are bigger and would require the shafts to the rear wheels be modified. I would not worry about the diff just yet, just make sure you have a couple spares with different ratio's. Diff swap is easy and once you remove one or two from the junk yards you will get the hang of it.

    My pleasure Mezarri,
    1) any concern of a 5 speed coming from a m102 versus an m103?
DOLUCASI>> Strength point of view, no. I know it has been done before. You just need to make sure the flywheel is either changed or notches added in for timing. I know the recent price of a new flywheel from the dealer is ~$500, about $400 with matrix/discount pricing. It is just a bunch of extra work/cost. Contact member SEC500 on Benzworld. He is the king of manual swaps and salvaged many manual transmissions in California junk yards. I even gave him a hand once to remove from a local to me junk yard. I believe he has done the swap you mentioned because he was looking for a 2.6 flywheel and eventually bought one from the dealer and installed it. As you know there are 3 kinds, 3.27, 3.07, 2.87. PM SEC500, he has more info, I'm sure and experience.
One other issue could be the driveshaft lengths. Ask SEC500 if that is an issue.

    Hey Dolucasi!

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to me on BW! I really appreciate it.

I'll throw a couple more questions at you:

    1) any concern of a 5 speed coming from a m102 versus an m103? I know the bellhousing fits and the ratios are different..
    2) On the point of the diff, any go-to suggestion? Would a diff from a w124 work/help?
