My name is Lee Henkel. I own a 2006 SL55, which I have tried to keep completely maintained. In the past year, even though my car has been kept in a dehumidified garage, the instrument cluster LCD's have suffered sunburn or similar damage. I read your post with interest and the DIY post you attached as a link, and I would like to replace the polarizing film on my two LCD's. I have not been able to locate the polarizing film through my searches on the internet.
