hey ramon, just picking up on the brake upgrade thread.....i have a 2001 w208 clk 55 amg (like your bosses?) and was looking for more details of the upgrade (year, models and perhaps location of the cars the calipers came from or part numbers would be really helpfull) so i could pull this off, i know you said w209 55 fronts and r171 55 rears....also was wondering about the rotors as well ( part numbers and do they only offer the drilled rotors with left hand rotation or i could possibly go aftermarket with applications that fit the w209/r171 with a right and left hand rotation. thanks and good work i am very interested in doing this to my 55 and would like to keep it amg and functional for a spare tire situation! looking foward to hearing from you to get started on my quest for parts.....
Hey Ramon,
I ordered a pair of rear 171 SLK55 calipers. What showed up is the same thing I have on my car. Is your rear calipers from the front of the SLK?
Thanks again Patrik
Hey Ramon, Im the guy that started the brake upgrade for my 208. THANKS for your post. All the replys went way off what I was asking.lol
Besides trimming rear plates what all is involved? Rotors, im sure rotors specific to the new calipers. Im a good wrench twister just not good on the research end. Anything you can throw my way I would appreciate it. If Im ever in your town I owe you a beer.
Thanks again
since you are a mercedes tech, i would like to ask you a question. i have an '06 slk55 amg with engine tapping noise on startup that goes away when the engine warms up. the lifters and related components were replaced a little over 1k miles ago. the noise is still there and my mb dealership says that it is nothing to worry about. their recommendation is a techron treatment and to drive it for another 1k miles. any thoughts?
