MB at European Grand Prix

Michael Schumacher had to hand Ron Dennis the constructor winner's trophy today at the Euro Grand Prix since Fernando Alonso won the race using Mercedes power. If you know Ron Dennis, he hardly ever smiles. You have never seen him smile so large as he did when his former nemesis had to hand him the trophy!

It was an interesting race due to the fact it rained just after the start and just before the end. Not the usual boring procession.

Lewis Hamilton came in 10th I believe. He had started there due to his massive shunt during qualifying. Lewis had a few mistakes/offs in the race so his finishing position does not reflect how fast he was for most of the race.

FIA should revoke at least onw WDC from MS for wearing that awful rhinestone shirt on the podium.

In other news, Alonso spanked Massa and Hamilton. That's how you win world championships.

Don't have a Mercedes right now...
I was really dissapointed about Kimi's failure, he was coming really hard (0.5-0.6s/lap) on Alonso before his hydraulics failed. It was going to be a fierce battle. Kimi would have been close to the rest of the drivers and have a better chance of winning the championship.

What a crazy race huh? I'm even more convinced now than ever that Kimi is jinxed, poor guy. Massa is a little girl, & Alonso showed why he's a 2 time World Champion - patience.

Hats off to Lewis Hamilton for not giving up & finishing 9th after everything he went through this weekend.

GO MCLAREN!!!!!

I guess we will wait til Thursday and see what happens.

Massa is a great driver... The car just wasn't working well in the wet. Had it stayed dry, Massa would have won IMO.

Either kimi has a black cloud following him or it's part of his driving style. I think he's really hard on the car and that's why he keeps getting dnf.

I think so too.....

I recall very few Ferrari failures in the Shumi / Massa days.

I for one don't buy the tyre vibration story. Massa is simply not good in the rain. Never has been. Although perhaps he's improving since he managed to keep it out of the sand trap in the opening laps. The Donkey, on the other hand, has proven to be the best rain driver of the current field. Precise and patient.

As for the setup, Alonso has not been shy about expressing his disgust with Lewis copying his setup. In the first 4 or 5 races, Alonso had been at the top of the practice sessions with Lewis right up there, and during the race they've had similar pace. In the past 3 however, right when Alonso said enough was enough, you've seen a slow Alonso on Friday and Satuday Practice who comes back to destroy Hamilton in race pace. There are strong rumors that Alonso is sandbagging in practice to gain an edge on Hamilton while still taking the fight to Ferrari.

If I understand what you're saying, then it is really pathetic!

So Alonso is basically admitting that given the same setup he would not be able to beat or consistently beat Hamilton?

He needs to resort to such self-defeating and team-defeating manuevers to beat a rookie?

There seems to be a different excuse every week as to why the Ferraris don't win.

No bandwagon here, remember this is a MB forum, so most people are McLaren fans, so i don't know what you mean. I've praised Lewis' driving & relentlessnes many times before. I will stick to my previous post, Alonso is a very patient driver, make one mistake & your his, just ask Massa.

I suppose you could look at it that way, but I think he's just saying that that advantage is not longer there, but found a way to actually have the advantage. I think the ability to set up a car and make it quicker than it normally is, is a driver advantage... which Hamilton doesn't seem to have (yet). Maybe Alonso wins precisely because he can set up and develop the car better than anyone else. Or maybe it's just lucky that Hamilton can drive well with Alonso's settings.

I think to a point MS was the same... only his teammates were never allowed to race him.

Just to take this further... Imagine 2 golfers, when golfer 2 copies the club selection of golfer 1, they trade wins. When golfer 2 is forced to make his own choices, then golfer 1 is clearly superior. Which is the better golfer?

Nola, I understand where you are comming from, but hey i don't see why Massa would lie, hes a great driver no doubt about that, and broke away the first stint of the race when it was raining so who knows, neither of us were driving the F2007. I don't think Fernando has proven to be the best in the field, the score board says who so far, and thats Hammy as much as i hate to admit it--thats what the score board says.

As far as setup, what you pretty much said is Hammy can extract more from the car then Fernando with the propersetup---kinda wack that a rockie can beat a 2 wdc, no ?

Anyways it is what it is, and so far it has been a great battle, and i still strongly believe Massa is going to win this WDC, just my .2 cents.

-I really don't think Massa is a great driver... I think he's a good driver with an average car, but he's lacking some key skills: Passing, defending, rain, trafic, strategy.
-I meant that in the rain, FA is clearly superior, and this year tyres are not an advantage.
-There's a compilation on youtube of Massa's rain driving... pretty pathetic. But I can't find it!
-I mean that FA is better at setting up cars, and that may be his only advantage over LH.
-I mean that MS was also good at setup, but never got in a similar situation (having to hide it from teammate) becasue teammates were never allowed to race him.

that's it.

I was not directing that excuse remark towards you, sorry if you took it that way. It was just a general observation.

About the bandwagon, how can it be a bandwagon when most people here have been McLaren fans for a long time, including our very recent pathetic losing years? So now that McLaren is winning & people are cheering for them it's a bandwagon?

Actually, i've been a McLaren fan since my HS days when they were powered by Porsche - Alain Prost & then some other guy that came in with Honda..

...and yes it does make me happy.

Been following F1 closely since '98. Ben on the same 'bandwagon' for almost 10 years.

The era of the McLaren domination has begun....

Here's the translation of what the two drivers exchanged.....

Off on F1 has managed to get full access to the transcript of the spat between Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso after the European GP on Sunday. You can find it with subtitles on You Tube, too.

Fernando: Hey little kid, you dent my paintwork
Felipe: Are you talking to me donkey face?
Fernando: Yes, I talk to you. Get your team to buy you some glasses.
Felipe: Yeah and you get a shaver. ***** face.
Fernando: You were the same in Barcelona
Felipe: Me? You say this and you win. Maybe you get a job on the fairground with bumper cars. It's your style.
Fernando: Yeah?
Felipe: Yeah
Fernando: Yeah? And you're too small to sit in a bumper car.
When you kiss your girlfriend - do you stand on a box?
Does she read you bedtime story
Felipe: **** you
Fernando: **** you
Felipe: No, I said it first.
Fernando: How does it feel to be Michael Schumacher's *****
Felipe: I am not his *****
Fernando: His Brazilian lady boy
Felipe: **** you
Fernando: **** you and the frog in the jumper
Ron: Calm down boys, there are cameras here and I don't know any good swear words.

Or, as reported by the respective team press offices.
Fernando Alonso: It was a great race and I enjoyed my tremendous tustle with Felipe. He never knows when to give up and although we bumped tyres it was a fascinating contest. Bravo Felipe!
