Angry newbie needs help bad

Hi guys I am new here and have a question? My mom has a 1997 c280 sport with 68000 miles on it. Thequestion is she just drove it from Salt Lake to Las Vegas and right has she got to Vegas the check engine light came on and it started running rough. After she parked it we noticed it was leaking oil. Checked the oil and it is low but it still shows up on the dipstick. Is the motor shot? or is it something that can be fixed? This car is well immaculate and has never leaked oil? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

IF by "runs rough" you mean feels rough, probably not shot.

If "runs rough" means noisy, knocking sounds, then probably.

If leaking oil means pouring out vs just a stain on something, ... .

It's good that some oil shows on dipstick.

Take it to a repair shop that specializes in Mercedes. NEVER EVER take a Merc to a "general" mechanic.

Be thinking about what service (if any) was done just before the trip. If any, tell the service shop about it.

there is no knocking. We are going to fill it up with oil and take it to autozone and have them read the check engine light code for us. Thanks for the help.

For the problem you described I would recommend a Mercedes dealer or a shop that specializes in Mercedes. I would be afraid to take my Mercedes to a discount auto shop based upon my experience with my daughters 95 Madza .

The first order of business is to read the error codes that tripped the check engine light. If it's off warranty, I suggest taking it to a good independant shop: Good MB Shops

I doubt the oil leak is related. It probably just happenstance.

Yeah i think the oil leak was just happenstance. Its running rough because the #4 cyl isn't firing because of some sensor. Thanks for the help.
