Fuel or Electrical system?
I have a1986 560SL , purchased in Jan of this year with 90,000miles on it. It had been driven 2000 miles in the last 2 years. In March I got in to sstart it and as soon as she fired, the engine would die. After leaving it for 10min she would fire right up. It happened again 1 month later but the engine quite while driving. Once again after waiting 10 min it wouls start. It has spent 3 weeks on and off at the local Mercedes Dealer trying to find the cause of this. They have replaced the fuel servo, fuel pumps, sending unit and filter but with no luck. 2 days ago it happened after no problems for 3 months. Now they are suggesting replacing the ignition coil, ignition control unit and the position sensor..Ouch! Any ideas?

My suggestion is that you do not purchase high mileage 16 year old used vehicles. Now you know why it was only driven a very little over the past few years!!! It would not run!!

helipair,
I've seen your problem many times and with different cars (Renault, Benz, VW), especially cars built in the 85-90.
Most of the time, the problem is the 'CPU' - Computer unit.
So, I guess you need to bring in your car to the dealer and hopefully with their special tools they can figure the problem for you. Good luck.

'12 Mustang 5.0, '89 Supra Turbo, C55,
Did they pull codes? All u need is a paper clip to scan codes on my 87 Supras. I imagine your '86 should have a similar system? That would def. be a start. Just a suggestion. Good luck!
