W140 Differential...

Hi.

I'm new to these parts (both this forum and Mercs), and it seems I've scattered the diff in my '97 S600 (w/ ADS, w/o ASR). Haven't gotten it to my shop yet (having it towed tomorrow or Monday), so I'm not yet sure what I'm going to find once I pop the cover on the rear end.

What experiences/knowledge/advice do you all have regarding the destruction and subsequent rebuild of these critters (aside from "Avoid doing that.")?

Is there a known weak link in this diff, or am I showing rare talent by breaking something that is considered to be bullet-proof?

As with some cars, am I better looking for one from a junkyard, or can parts be had readily and not too expensively?

Not looking forward to pulling it apart, and any help or moral support from the inter-webbies will make the whole thing that much easier...

Definitely looks like that's going to be the best option.
