Question about 1975 300D

I have the opportunity to pick up a 1975 300D at a really low but the timing chain has failed. What are the chances that the pistons hit the valves and destroyed the engine?

Do not know if that has happened but, if the timing chain failed its a real high mileage car and odds are that its been neglected. Its also likely based on the fact that you are interested that it will be quite expensive to repair and get the other items in order. You probably cannot afford to do so. Save your money and buy a car, any car in better condition.

Yea, that is what I thought. It probably won't be just a timing chain, it will probably have numerous other problems. Thanks
