R350 Air Filter Removal and Change
Who ever knew that changing the air filter in my 07 R350 could be so complicated? I've searched multiple forums and still not gotten a definitive answer from anyone on how to get it done. Here's where I am in the process, I have removed the engine cover, I have removed the two air intake tubes that run from the front of the car, I have removed the smaller rubber tube by the oil cap, and I have lifted up on the air filter assembly and gotten the clips to pop out from the front and back. At this point, the whole assembly is loose, except for where it looks like in the back where it is not coming off of the throttle body (I think that's what it's attached to). What's the secret here? Any advice you all have would be great.

towards the back where it attaches to the throttle body there should be a metal clip that goes over the air box. just push that back towards the firewall until it unhooks and u should be good from there.

Thanks, didn't see that one back there. Now the thing is totally loose, how do I get it out from there. There is not enough room to just pull it straight out...that rubber hose that holds onto the throttle body makes the whole assembly too thick to pull out. Any step by step instructions by chance?

It WILL come out that way, its held down by C shaped springs that hold onto a ball shaped piece of rubber. Unclip the metal spring that holds it on the throttle body, pull the rubber hose of the intake assembly (hose coming from air pump), and lift up. Flip it over and remove the screws holding the air filters on, then replace the filters. When you're putting the intake assembly back on, make sure that you seat it over the throttle body properly and that the metal retaining clip is snapped back over. If it isn't sealed right, it will set the check engine light.

misleading!
This post is misleading. You need to FIRST remove the black metal cover above the intake to do this properly. Benzworld has a step by step post with pictures that makes the whole process very simple. Trying to do this without removing the metal cover is risking breaking clips and losing holddowns. I'll try to find and post tghe link later. Just did mine (09 R350) and it takes about 20 min. tops to do it right. BUT, yo9u need a E8 torx SOCKET to get the metal cover off. My local advance auto sells them.

Or, gee, you could reference official Mercedes procedures.
