Can someone please help!! I'm having issues similar to this

My 2000 Mercedes Benz Ml320 is shifting but not engaging. I looked at it, the gear position is moving form P- R-N-to-D but the car does not move so I towed my car to MB dealership. So I met Karin **, Service Adviser**. After she had check, she said I needed to change transmission and it might cost me $8,100. After that, I tried to call MB customer service MB USA 1-800-367-6372. Mr. Justine said he will find out what is going on with my car and he promised he will call me back with 24-48 hours. Since that day, I didn't get any answer.
Can someone please Help me out and let me know if there is anything I can do on my own to save my suv??
thanks in advance all help is appreciated.

It's an ML320 2000 with 160xxx miles,
never have change the oil on the transmission I'm the second owner,
the oil level it's fine but for some reason it's just not engaging any gear but does shift!!,
thanks for replying I appreciate your time and help.

sometimes a transmission fluid change can help. if you've got over 60,000 miles on the car i'd give it a try.

If insert the pencil in the hole & you can be able to shift out of park, definitely IT HAS THE BAD BRAKE SWITCH, then have your mechanic replace the brake switch ?. $125 to look at it, is a " highway robbery " without doing NOTHING. Quote from your stealership 5-7 thousands without seeing the truck for diagnostic is another robbery. AMMCO may rebuild the whole transmission for 1/2 of that amount. Good luck.

I have a 2005 clk500 that I literally just purchased. I have another that got t-boned, so parts are at my disposal luckily. All of a sudden, CE light & ABS light were on and car wouldn't come out of park. Warnings included: Display malfunction, ESP malfunction & Break Wear. Had the shifter switched out the day after (yesterday), fine today, while I was driving this evening, all lights back on, car shifted to park fine, once in park, locked up again. Any ideas, proven solutions? I should mention brake lights are working fine NOW. It came off the carrier with multiple bulbs out, including both tails. Tail bulbs were good however, taking the circuit boards out magically corrected this problem the day before I started having this new problem. Could it still be the switch?

Just change the brake light switch man .. common mercedes benz problem

This is my first attempt at using this forum. So here goes. I have a 2001 e320 two wheel drive. The transmission stuck in park. Long story short, after much research that suggested replacing the brake switch and the multi-pin connector to the transmission and having he MB DEALER perform both operations. The transmission shifter was still stuck. Yes the pen trick unlocked the trans, discovered only after the fact. However, approx. one thousand dollars later, I have a new trans. shifter, multi pin connector and brake switch. Go figure: I brought in the car to the MB dealer due to a collapsed spring perch and the shifter=stuck in park only happened while there!? I did get MB corporate to pay for one half of the spring perch repair, due to citing their historic covering of this defect=$1400. Hope this helps you. Best...

Break light not working stuck in park

Correction break lights were not working and gear stuck in park well I put bulbs in break lights are now working but gear still stuck in park what might it be

CLK500 TWINS 01-16-2016 10:12 PM

In my experience, that is the most common, obvious and cheap fixes. Is replace it.

Go for the brake light switch, they go bad and everything is interconnected on these cars. If your brake lights are now functioning, then I'd imagine the car is recognizing that the brake is being depressed, so the switch may not be all the way bad, just faulty/going bad. If you get no where with the switch, the next thing you could look into, but don't replace it haphazardly, is the gear shift assembly itself. If everything is good there, you'd probably have to look at the esp module as being faulty or failing.

Just fixed it by clicking one button

Let's see if I can add a jpg
This worked for my 2001 E320 with the ABS BAS ESP CHECK ENG VISIT WORKSHOP lights going..DON'T PUSH BRAKE PEDAL,
insert key, move to run position, (start eng) then just (gently and once only) push the top portion of the switch to the left of the red triangle.
Let car run for a few, five mins, then, if lights lit, turn off, remove key, insert key, start, sit and wait. Lights should not appear except, perhaps, the check engine light, although it went out for me and lights have not returned. You should now be able to shift normally, drive normally.. it's related to the auto spatial ya da ya da something or other.

My C320 Gear stuck in Park + ESP/BAS/Stop Lamp Errors

Hi, my C320 gear has been stuck in Park + ESP/BAS/Stop Lamp, however with the manual override I can drive with no problem. I have tried looking for the brake light switch above brake pedal, I can only see the provision but no switch.

It's a 2002 model and would really appreciate assistance as to the location of the brake light switch if at all. Thanks in advance.

bartp1303 11-21-2019 09:34 AM

No brake switch on yours. 2001 was the last year I believe.

My C320 Gear stuck in Park + ESP/BAS/Stop Lamp Errors

Thanks much for the information. Would you know what the issue would be and how to sort this please?

No problem,
I am not a mechanic, but I have issue with my gearbox not going into gears. I've been reading a lot and collecting every piece of information I could find.
Do you have volt meter? put it on AC and test wheel speed sensors. you need to spin wheel while measuring and see if there is voltage increase.
I tested mine and they are good, but as soon as I unplugged first one my ABS/BAS/ESP lights came on.
Since yours are already on you will have to clear the codes anyway.

Good luck!

Bart

My C320 Gear stuck in Park + ESP/BAS/Stop Lamp Errors

Thanks much Bart, I will try that, however, I feel that it still doesn't address the gear stuck in park problem, unless I've missed something?

bartp1303 11-21-2019 01:31 PM

It's all interconnected.
If you have faulty wheel sensor that will trigger error in ECU/TCU light up your dash error lights and disable gearbox to protect it.
Sometimes it goes to limp mode (last gear that worked before fault occurred. Sometimes it will disable gearbox all together (that happened on mine)
Hope you can sort it out.

Same issue for 2003 ML350

QUOTE=PHML;3562527]Guys,

I need your help.

My gearbox is stuck in PARK.....also BAS/ESP light was on. Had the ML320 towed to a shop....and left it there.

Any ideas what's causing it to stay in PARK? This might be a protective mechanism like Limp Mode imo.

Thanks in advance.

Pete[/QUOTE]

Once light come on the car will not leave park without turning the car off and back on which will turn the ESP light off. My 2003 does not have the switch attached to the brake pedal that is recommended to change. What will fix this?
