1996 e320 will not rev over 1500 rpm's

I recently purchased a 1996 E320. It has 62k miles. It will not go above exactly 1500 rpm's. The instrument panel state "engine electronics ". Scanner show a P0600 code (generic).
It start good and idles smooth. Runs and sounds great until exactly 1500 rpm's whether you in neutral or driving it. At 1500 rpm it cuts out. it does keep running, kind of like it hits a rev limiter.
I have replaced the battery.
I would appreciated any help. Thanks

Answer

This is a vehicle manufacturer generic data link/communication fault code.
The Mercedes STAR diagnostic scan tool (roughly $30,000.00 yearly subscription for this unit "typically dealer only") is REQUIRED for correct diagnosis.

This code covers various wire/module communication problems, and locks your computer into LIMP mode.

Thanks. I was really hoping that someone would have had this issue before and could direct me in the right direction. I may have to go to the dealer but I would rather not.
I'm open to any suggestions.
