'99 E430 Sport "valve tap" when cold--less when warmed
Hi group,
This car (M113 motor) has a rather loud what sounds like a tappet noise when car is started cold and gradually disappears when warming up.
I would like to know the procedure for replacing the tappets on the left bank once valve cover is removed AND are there any Mercedes specific tools needed?

You almost never need lifters in these engines. Does it sound like it's just one or two lifters or are they all noisy?
If they are all noisy then check the oil level first. When was the last oil change? What oil are you using? When it sounds like they are all noisy it's usually oil or sludge related issue.
