Window problem: window won't move

I borrowed this post from the CLK forum... I'm having the same exact problem on my 98 CLK320.

My driver's side window on my 98 CLK320 "popped" when I tried to lower it today. The "pop" occurred when it was at the top (rolled up). Now, the window seems to be off the track because the motor works with the up/down switch but the window does not move. In addition, the window moves independently when I push down on the glass and pull up on the glass.

The warranty has run out and I don't have a good enough relationship with the service manager to have it fixed under goodwill.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

Sounds like the regulator or one of the pullies failed but you won't know till you open up the door assembly. If its out of warranty you will have to pay for it but there is nothing wrong with that. Maintenence costs money and nothing lasts forever.

Why did you say that?

We know you are from Belgium and have a different outlook about going to stealers (You work for one). Overhere in the USA some people want to fix their own and therefore ask for advice. If you don't want to help and give the requested advice please don't answer.

$0.02

P.S.
I'm also a member on a German forum and even there I can see that sometimes people want to do things for themselves instead of always going back to the stealer.

To Benz 916, I can tell you from first hand experience that Lexus and Accura do not last forever. In fact their problems can be more severe than MB's. Dealer response in most cases is no where near the response to problems that MB provides. You get what you pay for!!

My answer had nothing to do with going to the dealer or not, but whether you are a "Mercedes-Benz Enthusiast" or not.
If you think other cars are much better, maybe you should think about visiting this forum or not.

But I must admit that I visit this forum a lot without answering. Sometimes when I see the self-fulfillment and/or pedantry of certain forum visitors, I just do not want to answer.
