95 W211 E320 - Key won't turn + fan running
 

Hello,

I have a 1995 E320 sport with an odd problem.

The car has been working fine but last night the engine cooling fan started running for no reason - the car was parked, locked and hadn't been driven for 3-4 hours and the fan was running at full pelt. I unlocked the car and the fan stopped but when I tried to start up the key wouldn't turn in the ignition. The car electrics power up when the key is inserted and the dash shows an ABS and ESP fault but the key won't turn and the gear shift won't move out of park. The steering turns freely so it doesn't feel like a steering lock issue. When I locked the car the fan stared running again after a couple of minutes so I ended up disconnecting the battery to stop it running flat.

I'm wondering if it's some sort of electrical problem associated with the recent heavy rain?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
