Transmission Issue?

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this issue. I am experiencing an issue in my 2003 e55 amg. The transmission has a "flair" between 2nd and 3rd gear. It will rev up and bang into the next gear between shifts. Everything is smooth except the 2 to 3 shift.. After being told there was something seriously wrong with it, against my better judgement I allowed a local shop to rebuild. I get the car back and in 10 miles it is doing the exact same thing. I bring the car in to the dealership and the shop foreman tells me its 100 percent internal. He reflashed the tcu to the latest flash. It didnt make a difference. The shop has pulled it apart 3 times now trying to find what the issue is, and quite frankly I dont believe the issue is inside the transmission. The conductor plate has been replaced (supposedly). Is this a tcu or Ecu issue? There are no codes. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. This has gone on for months now. I just want my car back.

Best guess without driving it would be that the rear sprag clutch has failed. Not all repairers would replace this item during a rebuild, it's a cheap item though.

Any decent transmission rebuilder would know what to expect before the pulled down the gear box and would then be looking much harder if they didn't find what they expected.

What did they say they found or replaced during the rebuild?

I'll presume the K2 clutch isn't burnt/worn considering its recently been rebuilt.
Are you able to post any shift adaption data for the 2-3 shift? (if you have DAS/Star)

You may have a valve body fault rather than a gearbox fault.

Might want to take a look at our Transmission/other sections in our Tech Articles here to see what you may find that could be of some assistance. Good luck.

You are correct. This issue/fault codes wont show in the dash as CEL but its stored in your TCU and only STAR diagnose can pop the fault code. Im 98% sure it is the valve body, k2 speed sensor module to be exact. Unfortunately, MB dont sell just the module itself, you have to replace the whole valve body. I was qouted for repair including parts and labor by BP House of Imports in OC CA and this will run me
