MAF Replaced, Still getting P0170/P0173?
 

About three years ago I had this issue and replacing the MAF did the trick. Naturally when the codes came up last week it was my first choice again. I cleaned the MAF and codes returned. I've now replaced the MAF and the code has also returned. Can anyone help me with my next step? I'm hearing O2 sensors, vacuum hoses, etc. but don't want to start indiscriminately changing parts. Well you fell into the "frozen evaluation trap" and pissed away good money on an unneeded MAF---you can't start---the 71 and 73 are fuel trim issues and you need good diagnostics and experience to quickly locate the issue------assuming you don't want to do the job correctly I would just leave it alone and drive at a reduced mileage!!

Would have been better to at least offer some advice rather than diatribe. I'm an avid DIY'er and ex British Leyland tech (years past) but currently retired. Like almost everyone else here in the forum, we enjoy trying to help ourselves before we go to the dealer (or stealer if you prefer) for service. I probably have $4k in tools and love to use them, I hope you can when you're retired and I hope you never need help, or at least if you do, I hope you find someone a little better than you are at communicating. Remember, this is about advice and helping each other. Apparently you haven't figured that out yet. Prayers.

The intake manifolds on those were cast really thin in spots. You may have to borrow/ manufacture a smoke generator to find the leak. They are pretty simple to make with parts off ebay. There are probably youtube videos as well. Just plug the hose into a manifold vacuum port start smoking. Most that I have seen are at the right rear corner of the manifold. With any luck, it'll just be a bad vacuum line or something else cheap.
