2001 CLK 320 convertible
Unhappy Defective Catalytic Converter

Rattling noise coming from under the car; it seems to be the catalytic converter. The car is a 2001 CLK 320 convertible with just over 60,000 miles.

Any thoughts on the life expectancy of these things? Anything else it might be?

Thanks,

Ron

If it is the converter, it is covered under the Federal Emissions Warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles.

With some w208 car the heat sheild hits the converter or pipes or one of the sheilds may be loose itself making noise.

60K miles isn't uncommon. They sometimes go bad a lot sooner than that. If it's not covered by the emissions warranty, your dealer will probably be willing to help you with some of the cost by paying for parts or labor.
