P2006 replace full manifold or use aftermarket repair kit
My 2007 C280 has 70K miles. Few days ago, idle became extremely rough and engine would be sluggish if I tried to accelerate. Service technician pulled two stored codes P2006, P0301.
P0301 misfiring cylinger 1,
P2006 intake manifold runner control stuck closed.
He replaced all six spark plugs and coil#1. Now the check engine light is gone and car has been running fine. However, even after stored codes were cleared, P2006 returned very soon. My technician says that an engine vacuum driven plastic lever that controls intake air amount is broken. Mercedes recommends that the entire manifold be replaced at a cost of about $1800. But an aftermarket lever is available, and it is made of metal. This would cost about $800 including parts and labor. I am inclined to go with the aftermarket part due to the huge cost difference. Can anyone tell me the pros and cos of using the aftermarket repair kit? My technician is encouraging me to replace the whole manifold. How does the car run fine despite the runner control being stuck closed. Also the technician was trying to encourage me to replace the whole manifold at high cost.
What would you recommend?
thanks in advance>>>>

Out Of Control!!
Going through the same decision process.
I will be doing the work myself, so I am deciding between;
1) pulling and fixing my manifold, (Parts and gaskets $50 to $150, maybe even less)
2) replacing the manifold with a new OEM part (Part about $450 to $525, with gaskets)
3) replace the manifold with a reman part ($325 to $350 including gaskets)
I am dropping the first for two reasons.
1) I need the car back on the road in a few days, and if I find a second problem, I don't want to loose the time ordering more parts, and I don't want to order a bunch of extra parts pushing the cost closer to #3.
2) I have heard that although the lever can break on its own due to age, oil exposure and heat, Sometimes sticking flappers and shafts can also be a cause. If this is the case I don't want to have them stick or break off later.
Right now I am leaning towards #3 unless I hear of people having later problems with the reman parts from Rebuild Master Tech.

Also, if he can go the fix for $800, he should be able to do the replacement for under $1400.
