No ideas, but my friend has the same problem with his clk 1999 320. The radio cuts in and out. When you are listening to a cd, it all of a sudden starts making a crackling sound, then it might go away or not. It seems to be more problematic when the car is warm, warm weather. Also both windows have a problem going up sometimes. They seem to be struggling to go up. This also seems to be more apparent in the summer time. Its very wierd.

There's a software update for the COMAND that should take care of that, if it hasn't already been done. If it has already been done, you may need a new COMAND unit.

Unhappy

Well got the car back from the dealer. Had to replace the PSE what ever that is? to the tune of $456.00. Also had problem with CEL that cost $509.83 replaced Air Mass Sensor. Do all MB dealers charge $199.00 for Misc Func Test/Short Test and $199.00 to do Misc Func Test Audio System $400 to read the codes and reset seems like a lot of money .?

The PSE is the Portable Support Electronics control unit. It is responsible for muting the radio when the phone is being used. I suspect it was malfunctioning and muting the radio randomly.

Actually, S-class has fibre optic sound system so if the PSE (or any other device in the fibre loop) goes bad or intermittent, the sound will be cut.

Very common for the PSEs to go bad and cut the fibre loop. At this point, the CD changer would also be unavailable.
