2014 ML550
Engine Failure M278

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum. I'm also new to Mercedes ownership. 6 months ago I purchased a non certified 2014 ML550 from a California Mercedes dealership with 41,000 miles. It was serviced regularly, clean Carfax and was immaculate. It now has 47,000 miles.
I live in Wisconsin and drove all the way to California to get it as they are somewhat hard to find.
2 days ago I was cruising along at 70 on a freeway and suddenly it began running rough. I pulled over and had it towed.
Its now at a Mercedes dealership in Wisconsin and they tell me it has low compression in #5. They want 15K to start tearing the motor apart, and tell me it will go up most likely. They tell me #5 is at 150PSI and the rest are at 225PSI.
I'm at a loss for words. The selling dealer said tough luck and the Wisconsin dealer seems to think its no big deal.
Is this a common occurance on a 2014 M278?
Any feed back is gratefully appreciated.
Jim

First off you could likely find a low mile used engine for alot less than that, and have some night owl tech swap it. The problem may not be as bad as they say, get another opinion.
