Clearing limp mode?
 

I have a 2005 E320 with a 722.618 trans.

I recently bought the car with multiple faults and in limp mode. Pulled a obd 2 scan with a Bosh and got a P7015, speed sensor. I replaced the conductor Plate, pilot bushing, cleaned the plug ( both sides) with MAF cleaner and blew it dry with compressed air. Did a fluid flush and set the level with trans dipstick. So I believe all trans related issues should be resolved at this point.

Now I need to get the car out of limp mode, so is there a way or tool/scanner to clear a hard set limp mode other than SDS/Xentry? (Trying to avoid paying $90 for 5 min of work at my local indy).

There arn't any ninety dollar tools that will clear the MB transmission faults. However once you clear the fault without fixing the problem the fault will return and you are back where you started---do it correctly or it will get expensive.

Maybe you should read the original post s l o w l y to understand it. He/She would like to avoid spending $90 to a SHOP for 5 min of work to clear the codes. There are many Non DAS/Xentry testers that will clear trans codes. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aut...er-autel-al629. The description lists trans codes and clearing as a capability - but a call to FCP to make sure is a good idea. While it's not $90 - it's not too far off and might be a decent investment. If you're near Chicago - I'd be happy to help.

So if even if it was crudely put, the other op was right that there really isn't anything way under the $90 range that's going to clear his limp mode. Your link shows a $170 tester. Far cry from paying an Indy shop $90 bucks. Nice of you to help...maybe he's close by.

Rusty - As post #2 was changed from "Get a night job, your fooooked there aint a 90 dollar tool to clear the MB transmission faults" (hence my response) and it would seem that the OP did a reasonable repair to fix the transmission faults - I'll offer up another solution much closer to $90 ($99.95 - $113) ... iCarsoft Genuine Mercedes Benz I980 Professional Diagnostic Scanner Tool ...

Thanks for the help, I'll check these obd's out, can anyone confirm they'll clear hard faults in ecm & tcm ( get this thing out of limp mode)?

I'm in SoCal so Chicago is a little far but thanks for the offer.

I don't mind spending $200-$300 to be able to Diagnose MB's but $600+ for unstable knock off SDS or $1,500 for better ones is a little hard to justify.

P.S. the i980 only does ecu & srs, no TCM and it does not work with my E320 as it needs a 38 pin connector

Your 2005 E320 is a W211 which uses the OBD port is covered. The W210 (amongst others) is not covered which requires the 38 pin connector. The description says It will enable you to read and clear diagnostic faults from main systems within your Mercedes such as SRS airbags, abs antilock brakes, engine & transmission modules. Maybe contact iCarsoft to verify. I think the MercedesMedic review is out of date.

I think the article was from 2016 as the first comment was from then.

In the article it says "You also want to skip MB i980 which can only do ECU and SRS / Airbag diagnostic. Just go for the it can troubleshoot way more system in your MB"

I'll check with icarsoft and see what they say.
