Quick Help re Diagnostic - Saved Codes & "Kilometer Reading"

W211 E350, M272 in the balance shaft "affected range", 105k miles

In December, I saw code P0015 (and no other engine codes, stored or active). I replaced the exhaust cam magnet/solenoid, cleared the code, and the CEL went off and has stayed off.

This week, I brought the car to an MB dealer to have the trans fluid & filter changed (not something I wanted to do), and the service advisor told me that they'd found a 1208 (P0016) stored code (which is one of the indications that the balance shaft sprocket has gone bad and expensive repairs needed).

So, "oh shoot", I thought. But now *I've* read the codes, and found a stored 1208/P0016 ... and looking at the stored details, I find:

1208 Constant adjustment of inlet camshaft of the right cylinder bank in Retarded direction (P0016)

Frequency Counter 2
Kilometer reading 68268.0/68268.0 km
...(more details on the status of the engine, etc)...
What does the frequency counter and kilometer reading mean? My gut reaction is that when the car had 68268km on the odometer (42419 miles), briefly, twice, the P0016 condition existed. The car now has 105,000 miles on it, so whatever happened 6 years ago isn't a current problem. **But** when I scanned the car in December, I didn't find this stored P0016...

Should I trust the kilometer field? Was this something long ago?
Should I not trust the kilometer field? No matter what it says, if you didn't see the code in December and do see it now, it was triggered between December and now?

Thanks for your help!!

I don't know who's scanner you are using, however the the when and where log file is a log file simple as that.-------its a shame you cant get a copy of the dealer short test.---then you would know

It turns out that the scanner somehow dropped the leading '1' in the kilometers reading: it wasn't 68,268km it was 168,268km = 104,556 miles, which is recent.

I have an Autel MK808 scanner, which isn't perfect, but is able to interrogate the car thoroughly. What would a 'dealer short test' look like?
