CLS 500 oil dipstick
Hello all— Just purchased a lovely 2006 CLS 500 for my wife. I am a retired Mazda mechanic. I prefer to change my own oil. I will be dropping the splash pan from underneath the car and will cut a 4” diameter hole in it just below the drain plug. Mercedes could have done this... it has no ill effect... and I have done it to the last 3 Mercedes cars we have owned. So much easier to drain oil than to have to remove the great big pan every time!
I just ordered and received an oil measuring tool (dipstick) that purportedly is used to mechanically check the oil level in this car. Although I have not yet scrutinized every square inch of the engine compartment so far I cannot see where I am suppose to insert it. Does this tool work for 2006 CLS500’s? Where is the dipstick tube hiding? Thanks

Thank you for your reply and the link with instructions. I am aware that the level can be checked electronically. My desire here is to use an actual dipstick, to visually verify the accuracy of the electronic system, to view the color and condition of the oil, and to get an easy and immediate reading the old fashioned (and superior) way. The dipstick I purchased for this purpose clearly says on the package it is for use in a CLS 500 (among others). Do some earlier years of this model have a dipstick tube without a dipstick? Let me ask it this way-- Is there any possible way for me to manually check the oil in this 2006 CLS 500?

Where did you buy the dipstick? Is an online parts catalog available from that retailer?
