Sudden unlocking of door and interior lights coming on!

Just got a 2001 E430 on Tuesday. When I first made a hard left turn, the doors suddenly unlocked and interior lights came on and just a quickly the doors re-locked and the lights dimmed. I now find that if I push on the door, from the inside, it does this. Any ideas?

Also the passenger side seat belt squeaks when pulling it out. Where can or should I lubricate?

Thanks!

I have seen this before, check for a loose or broken door contact switch, pretty common fix. In at least one case somebody got run in to with a dumptruck, and even though it was repaired, the b-pillar was still bent enough that this happened. There is really no way to lube a seatbelt, if it bothers you enough, replace it. Ma benz don't like people mucking around with safety equipment.

yup!....I agree, faulty door switch. The switch controls the interior lights, right? At speed, it should lock. Having a defective switch sets up this undulating cycle in which they all feed into each other, like some episode of M-B Comedy Hour. I'm not sure whether to laugh or thump the dash in frustration. Switch lists at $650, 525 w/s, 380 dealer...so hopefully it's still under warranty for you. At the very least, impress upon the seller that it was a defect not divulged....or something.

You are thinking of a different switch than I am. Switch is a simple plastic thing that pops in the B-pillar. Only about $5.00, Although I don't know for sure. No way it could be more than $20.00

Thanks, car is still under warranty. Will have it checked out. By the way, does the warranty cover everything it did when new? It has 42K and warranty ends June 2005.

Thanks.

Warranty in Effect!

Dealer was great and fixed all the issues I had with this car including the door switch problem (this is the third switch) and seat belt squeak!

Thanks.
